You are among the very rare high flying executives who can now semi retire. Many of us here, even those earning $800k pa, must still work full time in our 50s and 60s.

I choose my work. My wealth allows me to generate a comfortable passive income. My "for fun" work now just adds to my wealth. I now work as and when I please and I get to spend a lot of time with my loved ones.

I agree, wealth can do wonders! As long as you don't abuse the use of your wealth by wasting it.

Don't be fooled by this materialistic world.
Wealth does not make you truly happy unless you use your wealth to help the poor, needy, destitute, orphans and the disabled.
What's the point of you owning so much wealth only to feed your ego and to show off to people around you?

Be contented with what you have and you will be the richest person.
Use your time and wealth to do charity work and you will be truly happy.
We don't need so much to lead a happy life.
If you own a paid up home and have enough to feed your family, you should be happy and contented.
Material wants will never end if you keep on wanting.
When you own a flat, you want a condo. When you have a condo, you want a landed.
When you own a landed, you want a castle. If you keep on wanting, you will never be contented.

Life is short. Make the best of this world by being helping the needy. Donating a few thousand dollars alone does not count. You have to really sincerely care.

Those who want to change to a new car but waiting, better buy now. COE prices will not go down to $10k. Only stupid people will hope for this.

Demand for new cars come from:

1. Replacement demand. Those whose cars are nearing 10 years old.
2. Demand from rich parents who wants to buy for their children.
3. Demand from young adults who wants to show off to their friends.
4. Demand from private car companies. This demand is huge.
5. Those whose salaries have gone up.

So COE prices will go up and up. The uptrend has only begun.

Secure your guaranteed COE now.

Haha, every now and then we will have posters rooting for retirement when they accumulate a little bit of money. Retirement is fun only when we are financially sound and have things to occupy our minds/time.

Lets look at the 3 cases of people at different ages considering retirement and see how much they would need (with and without inflation); Assuming all 3 cases expect to live till 85, annual expenses of $100k, and an annual inflation rate of 3%.

Case 1: Young upstart Joe and Wife both aged 40 and retiring at age 40.
Years expected in retirement : 45 yrs (till 85)
Total amount required to sustain their 45 years in retirement: 45 x $100k = $4.5m
With 3% inflation per year, total amount required for 45 years: >$9m

Case 2; Middle ager Mr Tan and Wife both retiring at 55.
Years in retirement : 30 yrs
Total amount required in retirement : $30 x $100k = $3m
With 3% inflation per year, amount required = $5.5m

Case 3: Workaholic couple Mr Lim and wife both retiring at 65.
Years in retirement :20 yrs
Amount required to sustain retirement : 20 x $100K = $2m
With 3% inflation per year, amount needed : $3.15m

The earlier you want to retire, the more money you need.

Be sure your savings is sufficient to sustain your retirement and make your savings work hard for you.
