True wealth is about not being enslaved to a job. If you still need to force yourself to get up to go to work in order to pay the bills and feed your family, you are not rich.

If you don't have to work for a living, if you have assets that generate income which is more than your expenses, then you are rich, truly rich.

A person who works so hard to earn $1m pa but spends $2m pa, will be broke in no time.

A person who don't need to work for a living but has assets generating him $100k pa while he spends just $60k pa, is truly rich. He has choices in deciding what he wants to do with his time. If he chooses to work in a job, he does so not because he HAS TO but CHOOSE TO and he can just WALK AWAY from the job at ANY TIME. This is true wealth.

That's financial freedom we all desire.

Most of us still have to slog for that first pot of gold first, to generate the passive income, before we can walk out away from our jobs anytime. And how many of us can do it at a young age?

Financial freedom is elusive. You may have reached your target of passive income. But you start to wonder if you should not set a higher target. Because you want to be able to afford more. Or you see your friends catching up, or accumulating wealth faster than you. And you start to worry about inflation, medical bills, stock market downturn and so on, and whether your wealth and passive income are sustainable. Increasingly, I'm beginning to feel that financial freedom is more a state of mind. The ability to let go. The willingness to adjust your expenses if necessary. And the confidence to lead the life you want.

Thanks for your advice. Yes, the plan is to buy an apartment near an mrt so that a car is not needed because honestly owning a car is really not worth it...

Gosh I can smell your desperation from a forum away. Never heard of the phrase nice guys finish last? Even if I were to marry, I'll look for an intellectual equal. If I want a doormat, I'll just go Ikea.

You can also share your finances together like buying a condo, car and going holidays. The best part is having kids, a joy you will never feel if you don't have kids of your own.
You sound like my mum and the gazillion family and friends who use the same argument every time. My counter is that loneliness is a state of mind and I am perfectly capable of keeping my own company and finding meaning in my own life without being married. Kids are a joy up till the point when I lose patience with them and want to slap them. Point is, different folks for different strokes yo. Let's agree to disagree on this.

Nope, it wasn't me. But I'm heartened that there are decent people here who bothers to keep you bored and/or desperate guys in check ;>

You just broke the hearts of all the car dealers who lurk in this forum LOL.

Those fellas have no hope Liao when even a 27yo girl thinks that having cars are a bad choice

I am 45, filed $180k income last year. Guess I might be on the top quartile mark. Not exactly very high. But comfortable to live.
