I worked hard and didn't see much of my children when they were young, but four out of my five children now work in my business and three of the five live with me under one roof, complete with their families and my grandchildren. I had to build a very large house to accomodate all of them. While they complained that I wasn't around when they were young, when they became teenagers, they realized my sacrifice to make our family wealthy and they have come to work in our business. When they started working for me, they realized even further how hard I had worked and the difficulties. It gives me great satisfaction to pass much of the management of the company to them now.
and the cycle continues with your kids missing out on their sons and daughters growing up.
somehow I feel you miss the gist of life if money becomes more important than living.

Possible reason why banks can afford to pay well:

Some of them engage in illegal activities and make lots of money - real examples include Barclays manipulating interest rates and now we are hearing that HSBC engaged in money laundering activities.

Not surprising why property prices will continue to climb.
Fresh grad already earn so much. Not surprised there will be those earning more than $100k pa.
If you are in your 40s and still not staying in condo, better buy now or else you can't afford later cos the new grads will all push up prices.

No the banking system is really stupid. They pool our money together, charge a lot higher interest than give, use those money to drive prices up then sell those goods back to people.

Yes its much more complicated but basically thats essentially the "service" they provide.
Insurance is another legalised scam.

I graduated 16 years ago, starting pay $2400 a month.

16 years ago, a loaf of Gardenia bread is about S$1.30. Today, it is $1.85 or 50% more.

So a fresh grad should be getting S$3600 a month. Is that fair?

35 yrs old, uni grad, basis 71K/annum, not including commission as it is dependable on hitting target, sales manager in the aviation industry.

Hope to earn more but is getting tougher these days, it is not that i am not satisfied but i find it strange that even with this kind of salary, I am just getting by. God knows how all the average 2k, 3k survive these days in Singapore. Getting disillusion in this little red dot. i really feel sad for the average blue collar singaporean..
