Good time to buy a 2nd car for your wife to go to market and send kids to school.
Just got bonus means need to spent all? no wonder we have CPF to force people to save.

Depends on:

1. how stable your jobs are
2. how much cash you have

Saw on the LTA website that there were 2,251 bids for 987 COEs under Cat A and 1,354 bids for 723 COEs under Cat B. In open Cat, there were 290 bids for 174 COEs.

It confirmed that those whose COEs expiring or expired are rushing in to buy replacement cars!

Frankly speaking even at current prices, the COEs are still cheaper than the peak 10 years ago considering 3% inflation rate.

I was earning about the same as you when I was 28. My wife also about the same as yours.

Rather than thinking about how you are doing now, what is important is how you progress your career, save hard and invest well in the coming years.

I am 38 now and my monthly income has grown to $21K ($280K per year incl bonus).

Our net worth has also increased from $200K to $3M over the last 10 years thanks to some good property and stock investments.

Demand is stronger than supply, so price rise. Simple economics.

Why demand is high?

1. Today's household income is higher than 10 years ago. Last time COE can be $30k, now with much higher income, COE price must be higher. 10 years ago, household income is $80k pa. Today, household income is $160k pa. Like that how can COE price remain at $30k?

2. Families are buying more than one car.

3. Many families profitted from property boom. They make lots of money after flipping their BTO flats. Bought first BTO flat at $200k and now sell flat at $500k. Then buy 2nd BTO flat at $250k. Sure make money. Easy $$$$$$.

4. Young graduates are earning more. Starting pay can be $4k, so if a couple can earn $8k pm. So, they can afford a new car. They don't have to pay cash for their cheap BTO flat as they pay their house loan by CPF.

5. Retirees are now richer especially those who sold their property to downgrade to smaller property. For example, they can sell their 5 room flat for $600k and then buy a new BTO studio flat for $100k, so they have $500k balance. They just use $100k to buy a small new car.

COE prices will continue to go up.

Don't listen to the idiot who is hoping for $30k COE.
