Oh yes, and I joined a large chain the last year or so as I am now on conditional license. When Covid hit, it triggered a lot of post traumatic stress for me and I had a breakdown and couldn't work. Hence, I didn't work from 2020 to 2021. Only after vaccinations and things are safer did I go back to work.

It is really important to learn how to get passive income vs what we r doing now which is active income. This is because one never knows if tragedy will strike one day and due to illness or other unforeseen circumstances we r not able to work anymore. Buying disability income insurance may help but insurance large claims are notoriously difficult to get sometimes. So plan early for passive income for retirement purposes.

Passive income can be through rental income, stock dividends or royalty income from books or other ideas. Can go read up about it.

Now I am in my late 40s and have planned for my retirement.

We can either own 2 private condos, live in one and rent out the other or put our cash in FDs since rates are high. Or we can retire in Malaysia by living in our JB semid and renting out our Sg condo.

So I don't feel stressed anymore nor afraid if I lose my job as we can still survive.

160k a year is really very little in today's day and age. I feel sorry for you.

Come on man. You bust your gut. Work super hard. Take on all kinds of extra roles over 12 months for an extra 10k?
You know how much you can make over 1 year just from dividends alone buying UOB or DBS shares?

You guys damn sad. Seriously.

Yeah, my hubby bought UOB shares when it was S$18 during the pandemic.

4000 shares or 4 lots. Now it is S$30 per share. He made S$48k already, somemore got dividends every year.

Should have bought Tesla or Google shares a few mths ago, now Tesla doubled. Wondering if it is too early or late to go in now. But US shares are rather volatile.

Exactly. Well done!

Spend more time learning about finance and investing.
Personally I do NOT like that people do earn so much more doing this type of trading and really useless to society kind of activities. Meanwhile HCW are paid so little.

But you can either kpkb try to complain and fight and change the system - which you know are things you cannot change or you can learn and join them.

Spend time doing more on investing rather than doing all the admin/research/work improvement stuff that gets you an extra 10k a year only.

Don't be dumb.

Maybe one day the whole financial system will collapse. Then maybe being a dr is still better financially than being a banker. But at the present conditions rather let fools do the Health Care work. Sorry I know I sound cynical but if you think about it, this is REALITY.

Sorry to hear that.
I have also had breakdowns before and could not work.
One of the things I find woeful in medicine is that there is no real support network among drs.
When a doctor has a breakdown the profession makes everyone feel and think there is something "wrong" with that doctor.
No one wants to talk about it.
Also before you breakdown there are always warning signs. No one goes from mentally well to breakdown the next day. But no one wants to reveal their "dark secrets".
I have always hoped there could be some support network for doctors in distress. Support each other. Know that you are not alone.
We do it for patients. But we dont for our own colleagues. In fact there is a duty to report a colleague if they are Alcoholic or turning to drugs.
It is a horrible profession when it comes to taking care of each other.
Glad to hear you are doing better.
For the little money we earn, the lack of appreciation from everywhere, the difficult work dealing with people, it really isn't worth it.

This happens at many clinics anyway. The idea that you have "freedom" as a locum is a myth. You want regular work to sustain or do well financially end up really is a regular full time job with more uncertainty.
If you are locum only to cover people when they are away you wont have enough work!

Come on la. That'sike 72k capital to begin with. How many mo/resident/junior fp- gdfm/mmed (which is most people on this forum), can spare 72k capital for stocks (and just one stock btw, not entire portfolio)
