Oxbrige undergrad then Harvard LLM or Oxon BCL is overkill for practice la. Study so much no point because success in practice is usually a combination of proven track record at work and support of internal political factions or key patrons within the firm (for big firms). For small firms, a killer referral network or killer win-loss ratio (for disputes).

Post-grad is more for public service which are credentials-obsessed and you look good with a string of qualifications when you churn out your 100th policy paper for Minister.

If you're looking to be a high flying LSO or civil servant and then for Singapore to push for your nomination as the next WIPO Daren Tang or FATF Raja Kumar then sure by all means collect the post-grad credentials. Otherwise don't bother unless purely out of interest.

Stop pretending to write serious posts for the sake of selling the absurd fantasy of the existence of a “big 5” label.

It is simply unsustainable and there will be high turnover (just check out the career pages of the big5) because nobody wants to do the long hours for low pay thing slogging for the EPs.

There will be big changes in the local legal scene in the years to come.

Last year they promoted a Singaporean too. Looks like the only advantage local firms used to be able to claim - that you shouldn't join US firms because they won't make up locals as partners - is not true.

Its one. ONE.

Here at Fervent Chambers, we are committed to promoting growth and promotion and development. All the recent hires have come in as director, and our associates are also all on partner track. We are also exploring possible tie ups with international firm.

Do consider us.
