Can you guys just lay it off thx
There is obviously just one troll in here. Trying to trigger the other people with his stupid fake - "I want less pay for more work because sustainable" nonsense.

From the way the troll talks (and his wrong calculations), it's obvious he's not even a lawyer. Not sure why people even bother engaging with him.

Cool

Hi all, I'm planning to apply for the SMU JD and NUS JD programs. Not sure if this is a good move after hearing about milk-till-your-balls-dry work culture and stagnant pay. Esp now need to be trainee for a year at miserable pay (even the kopitiam uncle near my block earns more than me). But I feel that being a lawyer has a longer career track than most professions - where your CV will probably get weird looks when you hit 40 years old.

So now I'm in a dilemma. Any advice?

Troll or not troll just use whatever info ppl say in here, discount the useless stuff, and takeaway the more important details.
Like we know from the forum that most white shoe firms only pay Singapore international rates (which means minus the 40% tax on the US$205k).
Hence Singapore rates. Still more than local, but bear that in mind.

Not at my US firm though. Just Cravath at SG tax. But PQE discount varies. Doubt firms bother to calculate tax difference for employees. They just see what their competitors here pay and follow.

Where I’m at, US associates get Cravath, UK associates get silver circle London rates, and Singapore associates get below Singapore magic circle (meaning <14.5k).
