Particularly in law and in politics, dishonesty is a fatal mistake and trust is the very basic foundational characteristic in these two professions. If someone shows dishonesty in their character, chances are he won’t change (unless it’s really proven that he has shown remorse). Therefore, for the sake of the people he is representing and the clients he would be taking care of, I absolutely support that his mistake should be brought to the alert of the government.

Moreover, the fact that he was arguing with the professor upon being caught shows a lot about his character too.
I am the poster you quoted.

I agree that dishonesty is a flaw that cannot be overlooked. However, some people are unfortunate to be raised by toxic parents. Who are the ones that will shape the child's values? Parents. If the parents are toxic people, chances are the child will inadvertently pick up the toxic traits as well.

It is only when they mature over the years then these people realize that they are heavily flawed and need to change for the better. There have been cases and these flawed people turned over a new leaf. I say this as I used to volunteer in social causes. Some are led astray and pick up the wrong traits due to the lack of guidance to proper values.

As for this particular NUS law undergrad, I have no idea about his background so I can't comment on his case. My post is to highlight why I have a 'charitable' view if such mistakes were made when young.

However, if a person still remains dishonest even in his/her 30s or 40s, then there are no more excuses and I will agree with you that they are not fit.

Did you witness it? Why don't you go and testify since you're so brave posting anonymously on an online forum ;-)

I am the poster you quoted. Actually I do believe Ivan deserves the chance to clear the air.

Personally, I am not a big fan of cancel culture via social media as it opens a Pandora's box of vigilantism without verification.

If you guys want to email and bring it up to someone, I highly recommend you hit up David Tan (Vice Dean of Student Affairs).. He will probably 1) Not answer your email or 2) Have his secretary deflect you or 3) Give a non-response.

Tbh, if you emailed the Dean, he'll forward you in this direction. And then, you'll reach a dead end. As with all cases of contact with the deanery.

Even if you're willing to testify, it's useless!

If you cc the head of NUS, MOE and the government, I’m pretty sure he cannot deflect.
