Both getting called in August 2018. In January 2019, your pay gap is only $500.
And both of you would have breached hdb bto limit of $12k as you combined total will be $14.5k.
You guys aren't aiming higher than that? Cmon I'm sure if you asked your parents and in-laws would be willing to front your downpayment for The Sail @ marina bay right?

In all seriousness a resale flat is the way to go. After that its straight to pvt property already...dont buy into the whole 'young couple must get BTO' schpiel. it doesn't work for everybody's situation.

Even if you buy condo 99 years in fringe areas, still cost 1.5 million and above for 2 bedroom.
Not everyone has rich parents who can pay the 20% for you

Don’t all law grads who get into wongp and baker have rich parents who can pay for their guaranteed 1:1 from Kings and help them get good jobs too?

As a late twenties female lawyer, I don't think we should settle for men earning less than us. I had seniors in their mid 30s who married engineers, bank sales manager, even a bona fide barista out of "love" (pretty sure the unspoken truth is that they were just settling for less due to fearmongering), but eventually their marriages broke down and a messy divorce ensued.
Best part of it is they can't even get any money out of the divorce (pretty sure my seniors ended up worse off financially).

Well you certainly can’t go wrong with marrying a 1:1 from Kings. Parents got money and guy will have bright future.

Agree. It is hard to accept the difference in earning power. Most will probably be left on the shelf just like the female lawyer for my housing loan.

On a side note, I do have friends who have good marriages despite income differences.

Not everything can measured by money and it takes both to work on the marriage.

Working hours for lawyers are bad. Life is more than just money, status and work.
