has anyone heard of rescinded job offers in the legal industry, considering the recession? heard that it has been happening a lot in accounting.

I can't and it is not in my place to say. I have that information only as I have many friends.
Your best bet is to look at retention/paycuts/retrenchment as a benchmark of revenue. It means those firms are not doing well/not hiring NQs.
