Default Reality Check - Civil Service Salary (Asking)

Hi guys. I graduated in 2013 with a first class and joined a statutory board right after.

I am looking for a change of job (dislike my current one) and would like to have a gauge of what is the current norm for a executive/mgr with about 2.5 years of exp in a ministry.

I will draw about $5.5k/mnth with Apr 16 MI. Received B Grade for my first 2 year. Not on any special scheme, executive role.

Am very concerned if I need a drastic pay cut should I do a job switch and would probably not if I need to drop to $4.5k.

Would be ideal if there is some CS HR exec able to assist?

I personally think these kinds of questions are very broad.

Every industry has their own set of salary pegs, and even within the industry, there are companies that pay high as well as companies that pay low.

Where do you intend to job hop to? Do you think you can get it? People get what they negotiate, they almost always don't get what they "deserve".

Your best hope to maintain current salary is to join a GLC. The high paying MNCs are generally not interested to pay that much for a civil servant with only 2.5 years exp. They can pay more than 5.5k easily, but only for people from management programs or other pedigree companies.

However, do take note GLCs have their own issues and you shouldn't just look at starting pay alone.

1st class with NS in 2013 at my GLC get 3.7k.

even with B grade consecutively + 1 quick promotion after 2.5 yrs (norm is 3yrs)

2.5 yrs exp from 3.7k shall get $43XX only.

Not really, if TS can convince GLC that he is a top performer in civil service, he has a shot of getting in as AM which can still pay 5.5k,

Go other MNC almost 0% chance as they don't value FCH or any civil service performance at all.

Doesn't look like more than 10% each year. First class plus NS means starting pay was already pretty high especially for CS and some specialist tracks. If start at 4.8k with 5% increase per year after 3 years would be more than 5.5k already. Or even 4.5k with around 7% increase.

Thanks for the inputs. Seems like I can't do a switch without any pay cut

Erm I think I was really lucky so no point comparing about the increment, not on specialist scheme.

Just lucky to get B Grade from the start and promoted recently. Include a salary adjustment in between.

Wow. And they say civil servants are not overpaid.

If TS graduated in 2013 (May) and start work in 2013 (June), it is less than 3 years of working experience.
