My career aspiration is something like this:
- MOney is number one.
- yet, happiness should not be greatly compromised. I dont work well in competitive, unfriendly environment.
- i like to help people

I did well in my studies, straight 'A's, i can analyze well, can work well in team and can lead others. I am naturally good in math and science. I am hardworking, i can work long hours (if i can forsee a clear goal).

Thank you.

That's the furthest from the truth. Please don be misled by all these generalisations.

Govt jobs are competitive and stressful also, albeit not in the same way as corporate.
You dont risk losing ur job if u r average, but u certainly arent gonna go anywhere being average because ppl are competitive.

Also, depends on where u are. There are jobs within govt sector that maybe no stress, but those are usually dead end jobs.

The prob is TS wants a job that is relax, happy, friendly and yet good money is the MOST (her emphasis) important thing to her.

You have any good suggestion where to get such a job other than ranting on an irrelevant topic on how stressful government jobs are?

Haha. Dont know why forums always so unfriendly.

I WAS from civil service. Joining thinking that its relax and shiok. Only to realise its not. Just dont want TS to make the same misinformed decision because of ppl like yourself who hasnt really seen what its like inside but saying with such misplaced confidence that its slack inside.

Anyway, having seen both sides, i can say that private is no more stressful. Of course, depends on where u r and what role u play.

No need sayang me. I am out of civil service alrdy.

Anyway, if ur conviction of civil service is so slack, and so good money, then i question ur intellect for choosing not to join them.

Definition of good money differs from people to people. I don't deny that civil service are rather good pay master but in general if you are not a scholar or FCH you will never be able to break out of mx10. I personally have higher ambition hence I did not join civil service. So there is no need to question my intellect.

Just as there are slack roles in private sector, there is of course competition in CS, but that's reserved for scholars and FCH to fight. Farmers will usually remain farmers, no matter how competitive you wish to be. That's the way our CS work unfortunately.

I am always curious that many friends around me say they dont want to join public sector because the career ceiling for non-scholars at MX10 is too low for them.

But I look at these people in the private sector I don't see many of them even at MX10 in the first place despite already mid to late 30s. Perhaps this glass ceiling "limitation" isn't really that big deal to 90% of the people out there as we aren't going to hit the equivalent of MX9 in the private sector in the first place.

Let's not even talk about the general industry where pay prospect is much lower, for a start take a look at banking sector, a MX9 is roughly SVP level for BO/MO jobs. How many people even reach SVP level in a bank? Vast majority seems stuck at AVP/VP level. We haven't even count the other gov perks like job security, work life balance etc.
