woops, posted my reply before reading yours carefully. realized that you meant downturn instead. Yup, agreed. There is risk inherent with banks during financial downturns but in general it's a great time to be a technologist - you can look for any other jobs elsewhere.
The VPs/EDs I talked to all seen their fair share of being fired (and being fired themselves)during 2008 but said that tech people don't have an issue of finding another tech job elsewhere when needed.

Why dont graduate get both offer then decide?
talk so much now later no offer also no use..
big 4 is relatively easy to get offer.
whereas bank T&O is much harder of course.

not all big 4 depts are easy to get it
bank t&o may in harder due to competition as well imho

Big 4 audit easiest to get in. Advisory harder. Bank MA even harder.
Most technical stuffs are offshored outsourced to cheaper locations or even Big 4, at international banks. The Tech MA programs train grads to become more of a tech generalist these days.
If you prefer technical stuffs, join Big 4.

advisory harder yes but it is different from corp fin advisory which is harder. the "easier" advisory would be IT, risk, internal audit
