Let’s be real. That should be the parents job, not the teachers. We don’t need to Chu pattern zhui zhui as long as the kid can score their As, while as parents we focus on the character building part.
What a load of crap. Did you tell the interviewers this in the MOE interview? Pretty sure if you did, you wouldn't get the offer. You're in the wrong job. If you think like this you're in the wrong job. Go join the tuition industry! Plenty of candidates waiting to replace you.

Social media has already been bringing up poor working conditions and salary for teachers all over the world for many years. Whether it's karoshi in Japan or low salary in America, our civil service will tell you that our conditions are already a lot better and to appreciate what you have.

Still remember a P telling everyone that Singapore teachers are paid the highest in the world. To the teachers here, I'm sure that level of smokescreen is like an insult to your intelligence haha.

By observing the pattern of how our civil service works, something serious or drastic has to happen to an individual for action to be taken or for a new policy to be implemented. Look at certain serious incidents that have happened to students in recent years, and how the ministry immediately jumped to get everyone, ESPECIALLY teachers to start working on new initiatives.

Currently a GEO3 and is damm burnt out. I joined teaching because I really love teaching and kids, like I already knew this was what I want in secondary and worked towards it. But the other roles and nonsensical stuff has worn me out. I had monthly migraines and went for a check, the TCM doctor said she couldn't feel my pulse and asked what job made me this stress.

So, this made me rethink my career choice. I'm thinking of doing secondment and leave the school setting for a few years. Otherwise, is to take my CONNECT PLAN next year and leave this system entirely. Should I go for secondment first? And if yes, will my pay be readjusted or remain the same?

Leave the system once you have received your first connect plan. Go private sector and earn much much more with better work life balance.

Enough of this. Just because we have a long queue of people clamouring to join, doesn't mean it's right to invalidate the problems teachers face. It's easy to make idealistic, righteous comments about how teachers' attitudes "should be" or "ought to be", but in the long run you must remember that teaching is first and foremost a job, and then afterwards, a passion/calling/whatever crap. This is how the employer ought to regard the employees, and how society ought to regard teachers, as well. What we see today is that both society and MOE take teachers' sacrifices for granted, and assume that it is indefinitely sustainable.
