Yes. And thanks for being one of the many thousands adding to a teachers workload.

Let’s be real. That should be the parents job, not the teachers. We don’t need to Chu pattern zhui zhui as long as the kid can score their As, while as parents we focus on the character building part.

No disagreements here.

Protected time just ended and already getting complaints that CES mailbox is full and emails are bouncing. Huge arrows flying all over the fking place on whatsapp work chats since 8am.

Other people preparing for Christmas and EOY, we macam preparing for war. The only saving grace about December is.. don't have to wake up before sunrise. This might be the most annoying part of being a Pri/Sec teacher.

Even JC teacher peers get to spend Christmas overseas.

It’s true, but I’m curious and here to learn
Because I didn’t get the part that every teacher necessarily wants to head into management, that is to say, some are fine/keen on focusing on teaching and not managing

It’s your entitled holiday period. No obligations to even read the messages. Am I right to say that?

Many teachers only want to teach, and care for the development of students in their own schools. Which is a perfectly necessary role and respectable wish.

But if a teacher aspires to make impact at the system level, they have to climb the ladder by holding and performing well in management positions. Of course, whether senior civil servants have any real power at all to make systemic impacts... is another debate for another day

Ps will say that protected time is a privilege, not an entitlement.

School needs, they say. These 2 words trump everything else.

Teacher here - personally, I feel this is an outmoded way of thinking. It might have been true in the past, but when the majority of households are dual-income today, I don't think it's wrong for schools to evolve and take on more of a character-building role.

On the other hand, this definitely leads to increased workload, without a corresponding increase in manpower. The solution (for now) seems to have been increasing salaries; but it seems clear that won't work as a long-term solution. Hope they're working on improving conditions over in the ministry… (beyond implementing chat bots)

Unless you do exceptionally well to enter the BABSc programme, as a DipEd holder, you will have the same workload as your degree-educated colleagues, but with half the pay.

Can consider if you are aiming to build your credentials for a private tuition career.
Hmmm.. Thank you for the advise

Because JC teacher protected time starts a lot later. Mine started 12 December.
