I can’t remember the fine details, but it took me 3 years to go from geo 5 to Seo 1. A grade when I was in geo 4 and Geo 5. Appointed hod at the 7th year.

You no longer have any management role unless you are roped in to be an Assistant Director at the very least. However, these positions are by invitation only and you can’t find them in open posting.
If you want to continue to get good grades, stay in school. Can consider changing schools and portfolio. If you want exposure and network, go HQ. However, be prepared to get C/C+.

Was the HQ posting by choice or a compulsory stint? I understand that being in HQ could be a make or break thing, and as you have pointed out, shining among the top performers is definitely not an easy task. So a drop on perf grade is expected and chances to become an AD is not high unless one really outperform himself or have excellent connection. My wish is to take on VP-ship.

VP salary - depends on sub-grade. SEO2, SEO3 or Superscale H.
SEO2 typically starts from 9k (with special allowance)? most vp salaries are between 9k and 12k

Not sure how easy it is to get VP-ship these days, as i heard that nowadays HR seems to be the one to centrally decide. Used to be P can recommend and put up officers for VP positions
