As I browse through various posts, I realize that there are a few which claims that we should expect a monthly salary of around $4000.
Is it possible for a fresh grad with minimal working experience to command such a salary?
Even the Graduate Employment Survey indicates that the average starting salaries:
NUS Laws – $4,770 ($5,000)
SMU Information Systems Management (4-yr programme) Cum Laude and above – $4,547 ($4,950)
NUS Medicine and Surgery – $3,852 ($4,000)
SMU Business Management (4-yr programme) Cum Laude and above – $3,750 ($4,000)
SMU Accountancy Cum Laude and above – $3,625 ($3,800)
SMU Economics (4-yr programme) Cum Laude and above – $3,579 ($3,700)
SMU Social Sciences (4-yr programme) Cum Laude and above – $3,479 ($3,875)
SMU Information Systems Management (4-yr programme) – $3,474 ($4,000)
NUS Architecture – $3,445 ($3,700)
SMU Economics (4-yr programme) – $3,429 ($3,700)
Graduate Employment Survey 2010 (published 2011) | Salary.sg - Your Salary in Singapore
How then can $4000 be a reasonable amount?

Seriously, most of posts on fresh grad earning more than 5-6k is not really true (though I don't rule out that there may be some).
The average pay for SIM-UOL is around 2.4-2.7k.
For the local unis, the range is around 2.8k-3.2k.
There are of course people earning >3.5k but most of them are either in bank MA programs or are 2nd upper/1st class in govt (uniform, DSTA, EDB, SPRING, MOE, HDB ....).

Cannot like that generalise, it all depend on industry.
Banking, O&G, Pharma, Brokering etc most freshie will go in>4.6k. Those who LL join SME have trouble even reaching 2k. For those who just want peaceful life with work life balance best is to join public sector which pays market average of 3.5-4.2k depending on your class of honors.

Hi,
I hope that you have the decency not to bring in sales jobs here. You are distorting the reality. Even for sales, don't expect to get anything much in the first year. What 4.6k?
And as SIM grad, in stat board and government, 3.2k to 3.8k is for local uni grads with honors. We should be contented with just 2.7k since we study lesser and we take lesser years as they rationalise it. (Please, we all know how fking little we study compared to local uni who knows almost everything)
As to UOL grads, there's an oversaturation of us in the industry. For downtown jobs like banking, better pray your dad is banker or you are super pretty as a lady. There are only that few banking jobs in market. Better get a sense of reality.
Honestly, i'd rate the pay for SIM undergrad as 2.2k to 2.7k for fixed salary. Don't come and bring in sales.
