My personal observation is many of these grads who take parents money to set up company have no clue how to do business. Many are just blindly venturing into F&B/retailing or online shopping. Most of them fail after a year and they are back looking for jobs after that.
exactly, so when reputable companies with smaller titles like exec, snr exec, analyst etc advertise they find it hard to fill the positions.

no comments about the young entrepreneurs, some are genuinely successful too...

For public sector yes...some of my friends already being given the job title of managers. I didn't know banks give fresh grads AVP titles as well.

Doesn't hurt for them to give scholarships to quality students. But do we qualify? Yes there's a chance, but you know it. We study too little.

We only have LSE. Local uni got everything, MIT, harvard, cambridge, LSE. You name it, they have it. A significant number of local unis went on to do PHDs in ivy. SIM? Maybe one and they blow your face to a enormous poster.

Stop deluding yourself. SIM really is inferior in many ways. Depth, yes we are inferior. Breath? Yes too, just look at what they study in their course, it's crazy. And every module is more than what we do. Honestly, stop deluding yourself. When it comes to book smarts, we can't win.

in essence what u said is true, but no need to keep emphasizing YOUR inferiority. with this kind of attitude u will get nowhere.

Many foreign banks? Assistant vice president?

Thomas Leung | LinkedIn

Harvard, MBA. Took two years to become associate (one rank lower than assistant vice president). Morgan Stanley.

You must be better than a Harvard MBA.

Am i expressing inferiority or doing a fair comparison?

I think i'm doing the latter, but if you perceive it as a former, i have nothing to say.

They might not be very smart...but definitely having better analytical ability. I dun mean uol grads are no good, but most that I have seen thus far are really just average and sometimes you really would wonder if they are really graduates.
As a SIM UOL student, i agree with this. Sometimes, i do regret not retaking my A level. As a SIM student, all i can do now is to work hard and enroll for Masters at a reputable uni. At times, i would feel ashamed too.

Since sg is a meritocratic society, i do believe SIM students still stand a chance. Well, it doesnt mean that ppl from local uni will not face any setbacks and get high pay upon graduation. Companies recruit talent from around the world. Sg graduates no longer compete with their fellow peers but with those graduates all around the world and whether SIM graduates succeed or not; depend on the individual.

please, meritocracy is something that the elites tell the masses to give them hope. there is still an elitist mentality in stat boards, ministries and even some TLC companies. i think the culture is still deeply ingrained since much of their management were from the Admin service or generals or scholars themselves.
