You are so totally lost and clueless I cannot believe you actually think Senior Academic is a PAX4 job!?!?
A Senior Academic in RP is equal to a Senior Executive in the pte sector or senior manager (super inflated) in the stat boards, you actually tell HR you want 7K... No wonder they also laugh at you.

First, you are wrong to say that Senior Acad in Rp is equal to Senior Executive. The payscale of Senior Acad at PAX4A is the equivalent of MX10 (asst. director in the ministry). Senior Executive is a fresh grad entry position for degree holder, starting at MX13.
It could be that the HR is considering to put him at PAX5A. Just a normal Acad staff. Hence the max they are going to offer is 5.3k, just below the bar.

i smoke her by saying my friend work in RP and told me PAX 4A is around 7k, she laughed and said this is not a PAX 4 position and say 5.3k is the max they are prepared to offer.
anyone know if hr telling the truth or just trying to negotiate pay downwards?

It could be that even though you applied for Senior Acad Staff, but looking at the relevant experience, they see that you are qualified as Acad staff only (PAX5A). Hence, based on PAX5A, which is ordinary Acad Staff, they are going to give you just below the bar. Such that if you screw up in 1st year, they will not give you any increment as you are below bar.
Although 5.3k seems low, compared to your current pay, take into consideration that the annual pay is about 15mths for average performer. You may want to nego for 5.4k at least, just to clear the bar.

1) how difficult is it to cross the bar? Any requirements?
2) Can someone cross the bar within 1st year of job?
3) What exactly happens after crossing the bar? Is it related to promotion??
4) Are there situations when one cannot cross the bar , even if he/she is only say 50$ away from it.
5) What about yearly increment. Let's say, someone is only 50$ away from bar. Based on the yearly increment, definitely, the person should cross the bar. Or do they not allow such things?

He is refering to snr exec in pte sector. He did mention it is same as a snr mgr in stat board.
AD in ministry is around AM level outside.

I agree with the comment that you should nego for 5.4-5.5 k to clear the bar.

Enquiry about the different PAX scales in polys
Hi all,
Thanks for reading and hopefully I would be able to get some useful replies
from the industry folks here.
I'm new on this portal and I would like to ask about the various PAX scales
that poly academic staff are given.
Could some kind souls (hopefully current poly acad staff) list down the different
PAX scales? Do they vary among the different polys and are there sub-divisions within each scale? As in, eg. PAX 5: are there 5A and 5B? Likewise for the other levels?
Also, can please list out the approximate pay bracket for each of these scales?
I have read through most of the past enquiries and replies and I apologise if the information has been posted previously, but I really appreciate responses from the kind folks here.
Reason why I'm asking is that I am seriously considering being a poly lecturer. I have 8 years of relevant industry experience in the private sector but I wish to reconnect with my teaching roots again (was in MOE education line years ago).
Thanks in advance.
Ryan

I have B.Eng and M.Eng, 17 yrs working exp in R&D (ASIC/FPGA). Joined a Poly last yr with pay around $6.5k. Am I underpaid?
I will be appointed as section head soon, but I don't see pay/grade mentioned on the appointment letter. Any section heads/course managers can shed some light on this?
Thank you.

I don't think you are underpaid. 6.5k is reasonable. Puts you in senior lecturer pay scale.
For SH, it is an appointment and does not come with pay increase. But it will put you in good light in the long run as you would generally need to be SH before becoming a CM. It should be taken into consideration for performance bonus payout.

That means you make around 100k a year. Not bad by most standards already.
