Seriously.
But does anyone wonder why the high earners keep getting bigger paychecks while the freshies and average earners have to cheapen themselves?

To compare and say why that person is earning so high and why freshie cannot earn that level or in the words put, cheapen themselves is an fruitless argument.
You will end up always feeling short changed.
But if you need to have somethng to reason it out, well, i can only say i because it about demand and supply.
If you feel cheap, think about demand and supply in the world. A fresh grad with similiar qualification in china will earn 4x less.
So should we in SG say we are unfairly treated because we earn less than US or Euro ? Or someone else gets higher pay ?
In short, my best advise on this is , if you dont think you are getting a fair deal, then work out it. go for interview, and get the value u think u should get. relocate.
But while u are doing that, make sure you make the best possible use of time in your existing job or if u r seeking for a job, the best use of your time while u can.
To blame others/situations / environment etc, is only a escape mentality.
Face the world. Face the music. If u find you cannot get the value u deserve, u must seriously consider the fact that you are fairly paid and then work on improving your value. Go for next degree. Go and work harder. Put long hours. Do value add/brownie assignments like taking minutes, hosting people, spending time with new colleagues.
Many people dont realise that brownie assignements are often the things that put a person onto a high flying project. Of course, when u are on that high flying project, perform well. And then u will see the other side of the envy where people say u got there by chance and wish they were as lucky as u.
All the best. No one know when we will become the next big thing. But we all can position ourselves in the best possible way so that if certain things happen, we will be IT !

then you are making it a political argument, I am a fresh grad and i am not cheapening myself and I have received good offers(by my standards, banking MA, govt, MNC global graduate associate/trainee prog/ SIA, pay of from mid to upper end of 3k) even though I am only a local grad with an arts major.
I agree with lazyplane, blaming the gov, blaming foreign talent, blaming your peers for doing better is no point.
Work on yourself and prove yourself, and there will be a way.
I do freaking english lit in FASS and I can receive good offers, why not anyone else with a more marketable major? How you market yourself and buffer your CV makes a difference, not sitting in front of a keyboard and moan.

If not cheaper, then make yourself better and / or faster. That's still what the above posters are saying.
Of course we shouldn't blame the government. They are paid the highest salaries in the world and so they can only deliver the best and most faultless policies in the world. Faultless. It's the pedigree of the people that's bad. Blame in on poor genes if you want to blame anything.
Young friend, wait till you start looking for the first roof over your head before commenting.
I already have 2 roofs so the government is doing me a great favour.

By your last post, you are make a political statement.
I never agree said to agree with the government, neither did i said i disagree with them. I definitely did not say they are the best and can only most faultless policies in the world.
R u sure i am young ? and you are not the only one with 2 roof . And you may be surprised whom i vote for.
But since you want to make a political statement, let me start a new thread and we can shout it down.
See new thread soon.

Maybe you can share, how you market yourself.. I have a more "marketable degree" from a non-local university and it is not easy to be granted even an interview..
I have been trying really hard and marketing myself and doing all the things that i should be ..

[QUOTE]
Ok, i will try to help.
Do this :
1. Go and search all applicable jobs jobsdb, straitstime sat newspaper etc.
2. Read each job that you wanted. Did you highlight in your cover letter or cv the skills that they are looking for ? Or did you do a "standard" template CV and letter ?
If you did the template, do some customisation to the context of the job ad.
3. Get some friends/older mentors to review your CV and letter .
Is there an obvious flaw with your CV that you may not know ?
4. Speed of interviews and CV.
Organisation and HR dont move in the same speed as you. U send an CV today, and if it is a good position, it takes 2 -3 weeks earliest before they call you up for interview. Set your expectation accordingly
5. Work temp in companies but related field
6. Set a daily rountine instead of letting your mind go wild.
Plan out a daily regular routine when you are not working.
7am Exercise,
8am shower,
8.30 breakfast,
9 newspaper, job search
11am computer,
1pm Lunch,
2 pm Library, clean toilet /do housework, watch tv,etc
5pm - Cook dinner
8 pm - rest and relax / friends
10pm- count down sleep
