Interesting points regarding contract/perm roles.

There was a headhunter FAQ on hardwarezone which addressed this as well. Here are some points made by headhunter (in response to a qsn on the diff between perm and contract, considering both perm and contract have same bonuses and benefits):

1) "If it is a contract for a project for example, then usually you won't want to work on those jobs because it is non renewable.

There are other types of contracts where you get entitled to things like variable bonus, AWS and annual leave as good as a perm job.

I have known of people who have been on contract with the same company for 5 years."

2) "Because sometimes, companies don't have headcount, for every 1 perm staff they hire, they need to justify (sometimes all the way up to CEO level) why they need to hire this 1 perm person.

I say contract in Singapore is very deceptive.

Because i have seen people get 3 year contract (with full perm benefits)

Or people who get 1 year contract, but with the same company and job scope for the past 5 years (with full perm benefits)

I have also seen people on permanent roles who got retrenched, or who did not "pass" probation

But since we are Singapore, we are "trained" to think that contract = bad, perm = good."

I got offered a position at a globally recognized MNC. I will be part of the team that manages the everyday finances of the business unit situated in the region I will be serving. My other role will be to drive customer success by connecting with customers, finding out what are their pain points and giving them the solution to their pain points. We have a wide range of solutions from burgers to fries to address their problems with hunger.

My company is hiring aggressively in the multiple markets scattered all over Singapore. From not just finance positions, but to also customer success roles ensuring that the user experience is best at business hubs such as ensuring that seats and tables are in pristine conditions once the circuit breaker measures are over and customers come in. We also offer backoffice roles whereby we run on mission critical tasks to produce products and solutions in the fastest time because after all, we are known as a fast food chain.

There is a clear path of career progression as the HR recognizes that progression and challenge is of utmost importance to university graduates today. From storefront specialists or to backoffice specialists, there are career paths for us to eventually take managerial roles within each business hubs, giving us the challenge we need.

This MNC that I am in, does not discriminate against gender, age, race or even education achievements. It is an organization that believes in happiness and it thrives on happiness. The future of the company is bright and sustainable as after all, can you imagine a world without McDonalds?

It's okay, you'll only get better after each and every interview! It's a good sign that you've been shortlisted for that many interviews. Don't give up.

well lets put things into perspective. we hire foreign employment pass worker is only 3.9k with years of experience. they are more than happy to take that salary cause its much more than what they can possibly earn back their home. overtime they also willing to do cause they have nothing to do here in singapore.

fresh grad.. asking for 4k to 5k and can't do ****. entitled generation. don't overtime. dont work weekend. just wanna high pay do nothing.

so, we rather hire
1. foreigner.
2. experienced worker - some not even getting 4k after working 3 to 5 years.
3. not interested in dreamy fresh grad.

good luck to all the fresh grad out there... those who joined my company we made sure they are given 2 times the work since they are asking for 2 times the pay.

Majority of the graduates who are not able to fetch >4k salary in 2019.

During economic downturn, the average salary will be lower as supply > demand.

Let us be more logical and reasonable when considering your demand package.
It will do more harm if you are providing false hope and fake information to the young adults.

That is the minority. Not stopping you to dream to get a high paying job (congratulations if you achieve it) but also have to come back to reality if you are unable to make it come true.
Please use the link and check the average employment salary. Do take note, the top 20-30 jobs mostly have lesser headcounts. If take that into consideration, would not surprised to see actually more than 80% of the graduates gotten less than 4k salary job.

Furthermore, your first job is just a opening the first door to your future career and you will have multiple chances to open other doors later. If you are don't have the correct attitude and capability, you will then see lots of closed doors after your first door.
