Wonder where local banks and banks like MUFG and CIMB will fall into compared to elite boutiques
Even within BB there are tiers.
Tier 1BB: GS,JP,MS
Tier 2BB: BAML
Tier 3BB: DN

Then the other notable banks like CS, GenSoc, BNP
Also have EB like Evercore

Then jap banks such as Mizuho,MUFG,SMBC
Malaysian banks like CIMB,Maybank
Local banks like dbs OCBC UOB

Personally I don’t really know how to tier them. If any high finance finbro know pls share

Try your best to ignore all the salty high finance wanna bes here, but here goes the Tier list!
Disclaimer: I work in the field but the info collated are only based on hearsay from my friends and people in the industry cuz obviously I only work in one of the firm

T1: GS (Just for the name, dealflow not the strongest in APAC but will still dominate in terms of dollar due to major deals), JPM/MS (Solid names, solid dealflow in APAC!), CS (Solid dealflow in APAC!)
T2: BofA (Pays high!), Barclays (Good deals and SUPERB CULTURE), HSBC (Pays highest base, but bonus so-so)
T3: Citi (Good deals, but culture cmi), UBS, Nomura
T4: DB, BNP
T5: SCB
T6: Maybank, local banks, CIMB, etc.

Boutiques
T1: Evercore (Magnus Keith is the GOAT)
T2: Lazard (Good name, but only have PCA/Debt advisory in APAC I think), Rothschild (MM focused but heard they're quite solid!)
T3: Rippledot, BDA
T4: ING, all the random boutiques

ONLY MY OPINION

Redpeak is also T3 standard. There's also Greenhill but not sure where they stand locally. I'd actually put DBS in T5 rather than T6 too.

I concur. To add on, I would add the Big 4 in T3

Anyone in L/S or LO funds can advise working hours? Don’t really know anyone in this field outside my firm.

I’m in a no-name and getting annoyed at the long, erratic working hours and low base. I initially thought better WLB would justify the lower base but clearly not.

I am clearing 60hrs each week doing a lot of mindless work that senior analysts put me through to “increase” their visibility. But really not value adding in my opinion.

Firm profile? Local/regional/global, hf/rm, scale, asset class/coverage?

I think it can be quite different, but I am not working 60.

I think it is a good thing if senior analysts are asking you to do stuff. Unless you are in some sweatshop doing really silly stuff. Maybe you just dunno what you are learning. I try not to utilise juniors/interns, cos quality of work can be subpar, and some may be spiteful and think I am exploiting them

I almost agree with the exception that BNP and SCB should swap places as I personally worked there.

Generally agree. What about CLSA/Daiwa/Chinese banks like CICC?
