Default Torn between MSc (Chem Eng) or Msc (Education)

Hello!

I need some advices. Currently im a teacher teaching chemical engineering, graduated with Bachelor in chem eng from NUS.

I am contemplating to take up my master degree next year. In my heart, I always wanted to take up MSc (Chem Eng) on part time basis from NUS. However, my bosses hinted me to go take up MSc(Education) if i wanted see myself in the teaching line or MBA if I see myself in the management role next time..

However, taking MSc (Education) / MBA have never crossed my mind.. and realistically speaking, MSc(Chem Eng) may not be a practical choice if I wanted to stay in the education line. But part of me, wants to take up MSc (Chem Eng) as a fulfillment of personal goal.

If you were me, will you go for personal goal or be realistic?

yr boss is more concerned with serving their self-interests, hinting you to take on more responsibilities in future. Not a bad thing as it will be a career progression of sort for you.
To them, a Msc Chem Eng is not useful in the education section.

take it if:
- u want to have no regrets in life later
- have some spare cash to burn
- may transit into the private sector

Teaching chem eng? You are a lecturer in poly?

Your choice depends on what you want to do in future.

Once you spend too much time in teaching, it's near impossible to return to the industry no matter what relevant tech qualification you have.

Up to 2-3 years in teaching, still can return to industry, IMHO - beyond that, (have to) make teaching a career already...

if TS continue to PhD, write papers, then still can continue teaching as a professor. by then you are regarded as an "industry expert" rather than a "teacher".
