maybe true for engineering, but personally, I didn't find NTU very hands-on.

I guess if you want something safe and tried-and-tested, it'll be a good school for you.
oh isn't 'safe and tried-and-tested' good? what programmes did nus and smu implement that ntu copy? so u were from accountancy or business?

Sooo......since choice of the degree course matters less than the brand name of the Uni (at the big famous unis of course), I would like to apply for chemistry at both UCL and Imperial. My reasons are :

1) My interest ranks in the order of Chem> Account/Econs> Mech Engine> Everything else

2) Chem is less competitive than Econs at UCL and the usual Aero/Chem engine at imperial (im sure they still are competitive tho since they are top unis)

3) Higher chance of entering these less competitive courses considering my big fat C in one of my H2s (My grades are 4H2 AAAC/AA so technically I meet the 3H2 A req :S )

Would these choices be better than going to NUS for a straight BBA?

Unfortunately ,not a career in science. I don't want to study all the way till Ph.D. Hopefully get a job in finance...doesn't have to be absolutely in finance tho.

I don't mind working anywhere with prospects and is interesting at the same time, just not science or research.

By applying for a chem degree, im just hoping to leverage on the branding of the Unis while doing something I would possibly enjoy at the undergrad level.

I wont be applying for chem locally tho since science grads don't seem to have much future in sg, with most jobs going to engine and biz grads.

I just hope I wont end up having the same (lack of) prospects as a local chemistry grad

Will the branding of the Uni elevate my employability to be at the same level, or higher than that of NUS Biz/Acct grads?

why don't you self-study for an ACCA qualification?
then you get the best of both worlds - a good brand name university and accounting skills.

If you wanna work in Finance, then go take a Banking & Finance degree or major in that in a Business degree. Why do you wanna do Science?

You must decide carefully. The way I see it, you wanna find the best of this and that or consider what is best or what is good. Go think about your interests, what you wanna do and consider carefully. There is nothing 'perfect' that will totally suit what we want in all areas, you have to sacrifice abit here and there. Are you in NS? You have abit of time to consider. If you are interested in overseas unis, i think there will be open information days in SG every now and then.

Oh the reason that I want to apply asap is cuz for applying to UK Unis, I will need a referral from one of my JC Teachers.
I wana get a course specific referral from the respective JC tutor to make it a strong and convincing one.

So I wana get that referral before they forget about me

Branding of the Uni matters to a certain extent but not totally. Say if a grad from a top uni didn't do as well VS a grad who did well from a 2nd tier uni, I will consider the 2nd grad cos that student has shown that he/she has ability to do well in what he/she does. But this is just one factor, there are many areas that an employer will consider during selection.
