Just curious about whether joining as a mid-career professional puts one in a lower standing for such opportunities, as compared to someone who joined as a fresh grad (e.g. graduate officer scheme). Naturally, in this comparison we would assume similar work performance, as that would more likely than not be the most crucial factor.
You will have opportunity to transfer to other depts only after 3 years in your first dept (pay your dues.) this is not some MA rotation type of job where you can transfer quickly. As for post graduate sponsorship, it is highly selective and only if they plan for you to be Team lead or potential division head. I know bc even though i got into UCLA, my boss said i don't meet the requirement for sponsorship.. She said a master's degree is not required for work. She also told me that i have to work for 3 years and get "very good" for appraisal, then i got to write a note to justify why this degree is necessary and prove that mas need to wait for me to study and cannot easily hire from the market. I think it's impossible to get sponsorship, bc im not indispensable what.

Secondments to other organisations seem to be sourced by the individual. Ala if you have connections, HR will be more than happy to let you take no pay leave for secondment.

Both mid career and graduate officers are unlikely to get into the good opportunities. Those are reserved for MAS scholars la.

Not too bad for 1.35. Given a "Good" band and 1 month bonus, furthermore need to prorate downwards as I joined in late Jan 2020. So end up getting less than 1 mth of bonus. Lowest bonus received so far in my career. Wonder if I made a wise career move.

it depends on your history! As a second lower graduate who has only worked for 5 years, MAS is good to have on my resume. My ex company in the insurance industry paid me 1 month in bonus too 😪 i think it will be ok if we don't intend to stay in MAS forever. Once the economy recovers, we can start looking for a job outside. I personally want to stay for a little bit longer so that i won't seem like a job hopper.

Yea indeed, perhaps if there is better opportunity then can consider a change. Previously was in investment bank in the compliance function before joining mas, that why saw a huge drop in bonus amount. Thanks for sharing!

Yap i think might need to stay at least 3 yrs n abv so tt it doesnt look bad on cv. Hopefully mas can review the bonus that they r giving to staff. Otherwise, attrition rate might be high.

I dont think many employers are rigid about the amt of time you stay on one job. The idea is to build a compelling reason for the change and prove your value to the prospective employer. Employers of course wont take it will if you say you are changing just to get a higher pay.

I think some in MAS are too comfortable to seek a move. They are just waiting for better times, hopefully. Attrition has to be high enough to get senior management to notice.
