Default Any of you guys grad with private degree working in govt job?

Hi guys, I have just grad from a private degree (UNisim), previously i was working in a stat board (2005) with a starting pay of $1,400. (with a local diploma)

I left after 4 years earning $2,160 then. As i've just finished my degree, i am looking into going back to the same sector, in another stat board asking for a pay of $3,000 based on the degree as well as experience.

1) Did i state an amount too wide of a difference? Coz usually fresh grad could command around 2.5k depending on the ministries.

2) Any of you guys working in any ministries/stat boards with a private degree (long distance, uniSIM etc.) starting out as MX13/12 etc?

3) Could you guys share with me what was your entry pay as well. (With NS means $200 to $300 included?)

Thanks guys.

Can u tell me ur pay in the year between?

2005--->$1400
2006-what salary??
2007-what salary??
2008-what salary??
2009--->$2160

it seem that you got a "average" annual increment of (2160-1400)/4 = $190, which seem to be alot, around 10%.
i need to see what kind of annual increment u got in stat board?
do u have any promotion in between these years? if so, in which year u are promoted?

Thank you

05 to 06>>annual increment = 9.03%
06 to 07>>annual increment = 11.46%
07 to 08>>annual increment + promotion = 14.29%
08 to 09>>annual increment = 8.00%

Base on my calculation, your stat board give you a very good annual increment throughout all years, with the 'worst' annual increment is 8%!!!

I dun think if u join private sector in 2005 u can get this kind of annual increment, assume that u still get the same starting pay of $1440.

Most of the time normally, private sector only give u annual 3% increment, and if u leave the private sector in 2009, I can estimate that your 2009 pay with 1 promotion is at most around $1700+/-$50 only.

I think you should continue to stay in the stat board.
I only do my calculation base on basic salary, i dun noe how much bonus u are getting in the stat board.

Hey there, I'm a private U-grad. Unlike most of the people who joined as Poly grads, I joined when I completed my 'A' levels in 2002 (after NS). I qualified for some pointless courses in the public Uni and most other courses in private Unis, but financial problems then prevented me from joining. Looong story, which would be irrelevant.

Anyway, I joined as the 2nd lowest rank in the Civil Service (CSO) earning around 1.3k per month, and when I finally afforded and completed my degree I was 30. Starting pay at my current job is 3.2k, and all the previous experience is not counted (which is unfair, but what to do? HR in the civil service not exactly negotiable.). So technically, I'm starting off a fresh grad (2nd upper). To answer your questions:

1) Did i state an amount too wide of a difference? Coz usually fresh grad could command around 2.5k depending on the ministries.
A: It depends on the classification of your honours; but 2.5 (no honours, without NS) to 3k+ (good honours, with NS) is the typical range.

2) Any of you guys working in any ministries/stat boards with a private degree (long distance, uniSIM etc.) starting out as MX13/12 etc?
A: I have a long distance part-time degree from the UK. Starting out MX13 (though my Current Estimated Potential, or CEP when I was a CSO was already MX13). MX13 is the typical grade to start off. After a year's probation and some induction tests, you get promoted to MX12 (or not, depending on whether they find you suitable for the post), which is the base grade for Civil Service Graduates.
