There is no such thing as best prospect. It all drills down to whether you want to be a Specialist or a Generalist. Do you want to be a regional head of sanctions, advisory, TM or CDD, or do you want to be country head of AML? At the end of the day, regardless which part of Compliance you are at, if it is an area that interest you and you can perform well, you will get the best prospects in that specific area.
Its the same as getting a degree in Business Admin. Should you specialize in HR, Marketing or Economics? At the end of the day, it doesn't matter.

Yes they arent very good. I seem to be having trouble trying to get a perm job at banks. Even with about 8 months experience and a degree, i keep getting rejected. How can I get a per job?

You got to be careful. You only have 8 months, it is not significant. Why did you leave after 8 months?
Banks are cutting costs on these functions ever before. Headcount are normally given to more senior roles as they need people with solid expertise. Junior roles are not granted many headcounts and are forced to work within budget, thus the reason for many contracts.
