got my degree (pass degree, distant learning) in 2011. However till today, I have yet to use my degree.
My last diploma scheme was Technical Scheme grade 4, Principal Officer. Recently opted for the extended MX scheme, and was placed at MX 12, with no pay increment, $3.8k.

If I were to move to another stat board/ministry, how much pay can I expect?
Bro, if u get interview im sure u can do well, cost u got many years exp vs those local fresh grad.. just try ur luck and send application to other stat board or ministry cos some of the post want people with exp and familiar with current govern IM which u had.. dont bother listen to those who say u got mickey mouse degree cos a degree is still a degree, its not from a mill uni.. plus u got experience advantage which most company look out for.. good luck to u!

Hi phantaghiro12,

As mentioned by some of the writers here, you have the operational experience which will be highly valued in many agencies. Academic qualifications are (in my opinion) only relevant especially for fresh graduates. But of course do take note of those roles which specifically ask for "good honours degree" or similar.

I was a poly grad and did my degree part time (but did final term overseas at actual uni) and faced many "silly" and doubtful questions by interviewers back then. I convinced them during my interviews and have since gone on to attain professional certifications in my field (rather than advanced academic qualifications).

In the recent speech by key Ministers, the civil and public service are trying to move away from strictly academic qualifications. That's a positive move.

If it helps to assure you, my last role was in MAS as a AD.

All the best!

Hi, would like some advice. I'm graduating this year, with FCH from local university accounting degree. Female, so no NS. Thinking of applying for IRAS or other ministries (which are good? Ministries/Stat boards), what kind of pay can I expect?

Really depends on the ministry. Some schemes, as such as the Economist and Foreign Service schemes to name a couple, generally pay more than the generic MX scheme and their equivalent.

But in general, I think for a local FCH (without NS), the pay should be around 3.5-3.7k.

male starting pay minus 2 years worth of increment.

LTA is one of the better paying one. Last i heard (May 2015), the pay for male fch was 3.9k. Thus, for female, it sld be ard 3.4 to 3.5. if u r in defense related min/sb, the pay could be slightly higher. Uniform schemes and professional services command even higher pay.

Hello all
Is it difficult to cross over to CS at age 40?
I am from private MNC. Supervisory role for 2 years. Technical roles for 5 year+. The rest of my adulthood were all in university.
Does not mind pay cut. Just want stability until retirement.
Does my age hinder the selection for interview?
Thanks

Whats your salary range in MNC? Be prepared for pay cut definately. (just imagine you put your asking salary in resume, (eg. Career@Gov, the 'system' proly autocut you out of shortlist).

Also age is certainly a factor although I am quite sure no HR will openly admit. Dun get me wrong, I am quite sure your experience is valuable and certainly highly qualified.

85k annual.
I put 90k expected on career@gov.
May I asking too much for AD kind of position?
If I ask lower salary, will HR think I am suspicious case?

Will my age be a issue ? The D or DD may be younger than me?
TIA

Possible that DD is younger then you if not on par in age. Experience wise am very sure you are much better. (The exposure in pte sector way surpass CS)

I duno about the C@G portal after the revamp. Are you able to leave the salary section blank or put "negotiable"? If you experiences match, quite sure you willbe shortlisted soon.

experience in both CS and pte, what i can say is that eventhough pte experience surpass CS in some way but please do remember they are 2 different kind of thing. PTE always focus on quanity (money) more then quality. However, CS being the govt sector, values quality more then quanity and both ways works differently too. CS have many set of rules that pte doesnt have hence when i apply back to CS, they do always state they prefer people who know how CS works. in CS, their AD can be as young as 26 for scholars and if you dont mind to be on par with them, then you can try.

well, i could say that you have choose to enter CS at quite a later age which is not advisable because they always want younger people due to their thinking in seeing the future and the syllabus they go through were either up to date or already planning for the future. last but not least, the frquency among all the management level must be on the same level.
