Husband (48) and wife (47) income, S$140k in total.
OCR condo, worth S$900k, loan outstanding S$300k.
Other assets are cash/CPF/stocks, S$400k.
Net worth, S$1m in total.

Any gurus out there who can give ideas how we can prepare for retirement?
We plan to retire at 65.

Yeah right. So it was ok to live life to the fullest when you are sick but not to work.

Don't bother lah, its just some sad old guy trying to justify his self worth. Pray we do not reach this kind of level.

Congratulations on achieving the status of millionaire couple and condo dweller. You have done well financially.

To retire is simple. Just downgrade or retire overseas.

We are a mid 40s professional couple making a combined income of $205k pa. Like many professionals like us, we live in a luxury condo, which is paid up. Like many other professionals, we chose a big, luxury continental car as our family car, which is paid up too.

We spend a lot as the demands of today's world require us to spend on the latest gadgets, premium tution for our children, allowances for our parents (both sides), holidays to nice locations, restaurants, insurance, etc. We want to give the best for our children and parents. We spend $170k pa and only save $35k pa.

When we retire, we will downgrade to a one bedroom condo apartment and invest the rest of our cash in high dividend yield blue chips. The condo must be located near an MRT station so that we can travel anywhere easily.

Ok, this is the 125th time this type of posting has appeared here. Is it the same guy that keeps posting these?

"so and so got so much savings. we stay in big luxury condo. when we retire we will downgrade to some small apartment. we will invest the savings for retirement. make sure don't womanize/drink/smoke. we will exercise to keep fit and travel the world "

anyone else bored of this chap/crap ?

Only breadwinner, 120k pa. Home is a condo worth 1m. Bought for 600k in 2006. Upgraded from 5 room flat. No more mortgage. No car. No maid. Wife does all the housework, cooking, teaching the kids, etc. We are just simple middle income Songaporeans who live a modest life.

Instead of downgrading, you can still keep your luxury condo and rent it out at say $10k per month and then you rent a cheap one bedder condo unit located next to an MRT station. Condos you can consider are Caspian, Lakeshore and Lakefront Residences near the Lakeside MRT station. The small units there can be rented cheaply at only $3k plus. Then you will get passive income of $6k plus for your retirement.
