150k+ in 40s, should max out at 180k. Very low when looking at how much graduates are earning now.

My spouse and I have the option to retire now if we monetise our private property. We are in our early 40s and are debt free.

We can sell our fully paid condo and downgrade to a HDB flat and get $1m cash. On top of that we will also collect $400k cash from our CPF OA at 55. All this will be more than sufficient for our retirement expenses until 55.

When we reach 55, our CPF Life will provide us a combined $120k pa of passive income. Most likely we will only spend $80k pa and can still save $40k pa.

We are seriously thinking about retiring now to relax and pursue other interests. To retire at 55 is too old.

You sound determined to retire now so just do it. Don’t regret. Live life to the fullest. You have more than enough to retire. Most people live in HDB flat so no big deal if you downgrade. With lots of cash you can travel the world while you’re healthy. You’ve done well. Enjoy your retirement now!

Fresh grad, private uni, local bank MO. Pre-bonus with 36k sound about right.

I have a NS mate, started with similar profile. Probably need to get some experience in first, and look elsewhere and see if can get the pay bump overtime (especially if not getting it at your current bank).

As the previous person says, you just have to be satisfied about your own growth.

In Singapore a retiree needs $1500 pm for basic necessities, assuming HDB flat is paid up. So a retired couple needs $3000 pm or $36k pa. So if you have $360k cash and CPF Life, you can retire when you are 55 years old. If you have more cash you can retire at 45 years old.
