I would say on average 3-4 months. Bonus will be paid in March 2017 and that might be on the lower end of 3 months due to lower profits this year, but increment is confirmed next month will bring up close to 5.8k. I will be looking for at least 7k in the next jump.

Hoping my next jump can hit 7k. My plan is to hit 20k before 40yo then just settle down in whatever job.
Any tips to share on how you get good increment although you stay for 1 year or less.

I've been there and done that, reached $8K after 7 years, $12K after 11 years and $20K at age 38. Make around $320K all in if include bonus. What I realized is to continually gain skills and experience which are market relevant. That means being unafraid to take risks at work in innovative and untested areas. Even if you fail, it's unlikely the company will let you go while at the same time you gain hands on experience which not many will have.

Which industry? What is your starting salary?

Started out as a analyst in a investment research firm: $2700. Stayed 5 months

Went into a contract position at a American bank in the KYC field: $3000. Stayed 7 months

Went into a permanent position at a European bank also doing KYC: $4070 -> $4,250. Stayed 14 months.

Now currently at another European bank but in Compliance doing Advisory: $5050. Currently about 6 months.

For comparison's sake, my ex colleagues from that investment research firm who joined the same time as me and are still there, are earning about $3800 to $4000.

I am just a plain degree holder from a vanilla university. No Masters, no professional papers. After the bonus next March, I will be looking to move again.

That's a lot of increment. What is your bonus range currently?

Starting was at 4.5k, considered hi-tech industry though most of the profit is made by selling specialize software to contract manufacturers.

It's actually quite normal for job hops. My bonus range is very standard. At my previous place was around 2 months. News has it that my current place will be about 2.5 months. Can't expect much from the banking space nowadays.

I guess the main takeaway I've heard and seen from my job switches... it never looks good on your CV, that is a undisputable fact. But as and when I submit my CV for job applications and I get through to the interview round, that's half the battle won. Although I may lack in paper qualifications compared to the many elites around here, I think my main redeeming quality is my linguistic + bs skills that help smooth the usual questions relating to my job stints and why I left.
