I'm the guy who released this news in advance on 4 Nov. It was already going through approval and rubber stamp but nobody believe me.
Yesterday already got treat from my uni friends who decide to spend their bonus in advance before receiving it next month. I been begging them for any openings in their ministry but they keep telling me market no good, no lobang to pull me in....

Yah! This is not the easiest time to join the service. Economy is weakening. Everybody is looking for a safe harbour to weather the storm. My uni classmates are also looking into civil service jobs. Applications for vacancies is overwhelming.
12 mth salary + 13th month + 0.45 mth + 0.5 mth + "B" grade PB
Not bad for the year of 2016.

I overhead a cocky civil servant on the bus in the afternoon, with another man and auntie. It seems like they are all in the service. The auntie was complaining about the "low 0.5 month bonus", hinting that she deserve more as she has a tough job replying emails at work. The cocky man was laughing at his private sector friends who were facing pay freeze and even threats of getting laid off. He casually mentioned he will be starting his car shopping tomorrow and was feeling happy he can finally have his own transport, unlike his friends.

When Economy good, Private sector gets better than civil service.
When Economy bad, Civil service gets better than private sector.
Don't need to compare lah. It goes in cycles.

my friend who was convert to perm position start of this month was very happy. last time he was in a private sector sme, every day the boss nitpicking and micro manage, pay is not so good and even have to work half day on sat. lucky he found a opening for civil service and faster took it even though basic pay only increase by 5%
