I’m worried the flood of locums (around 30++ from my batch alone) will have unintended downstream consequences for the job market and ultimately might be more prudent to stay on. A lot of students are also planning to break bond once they finish HO (from what I have heard). Thanks

Leave, chiong in private, retire early (?45-50) possible if no kids
vs
Stay, be miserable in public healthcare system (although stable) and see the same toxic people for the rest of your life
You choose your poison

I notice all the older GPs and non-procedural public hospital specialists (ie psyche, peds) all live in nice landed property. Is it still possible as an up and coming young doctor?

Era of doctors earning super high pay has long gone.
Insurers suppressing doctors pay.
Salary has not kept up with inflation over the years.

To be fair most Drs pay is still above average in Singapore.
Even fm Drs earn close to 200k/year. (The lowest paid Dr or all specialities).
It is just unfortunate that in sg now, an above average salary can't get you an above average lifestyle anymore.
From the perspective of a single, above average lifestyle = own 2 ocr condos, 2-3 holidays a year (fly in business class), regular restaurant meals etc.
Of course, we can still afford an average lifestyle ( hdb, hawker meals regularly, 2-3 holidays a year in economy class etc)
So it's not so much that we are paid poorly compared to older generation of Drs, just that inflation has eroded into our QOL.
