Take a look at the WP and A&G corp departments on linkedin... more than half of the 2019 call batch left for international firms last year LOL, and the 2020 batch is about to leave soon. Just wait till Nov/Dec.

Be grateful you can be a legal exec.

Most SAs in this generations (90s kids) won’t ever smell partnership. Some will stay on as SA for ever and ever
Sick of all these fake news and doomsaying by boomers or whoever pretending to be lawyers, who don't even know the market. There ARE legal associate positions everywhere for law grads and NQs. Its just a matter of whether you get your choice firm or not. Stop spreading the myth that law grads have no jobs.

Each and every one of my NUS peers I know had positions in firms upon call, or if not retained, had multiple LA job offers after around 1 months' time. If you have sucky grades from low tier uni and/or trained at a no-name firm, you may take slightly longer but eventually you'll get an LA job.

Stop spreading falsehood and conning people into underemployment by accepting legal exec jobs. You're probably a cheap chinatown sole prop who wants slave labour.

I second this. I came from a “low-tier” uni and my batchmates (even the second lower class) have LA positions. It’s a matter of whether they get the choice of firm they want. Most of my batchmates are either in mid-tier or big fours. Selected few are currently in internationals.

There definitely ARE jobs out there, just not the ones that you may want.

As for equity partnership, no. I doubt this generation will have great prospects of making EP (which is already a tall order in the current circumstances).

The later your year of call, the less of a chance you have. Junior partner or SA, sure. But EP, no.

It doesn’t matter. The truth is every decade or so, a crisis on this magnitude would occur.
This is part and parcel of life. Like you, I’m done with everything. I sometimes find it amusing the juniors are spending so many hours to do privacy certifications, and all the other ancillary qualifications. Back in the old days, these weren’t necessary. Glut plus crisis makes things a lot worse
is CIPP worth taking ah?

Beware some of the people here are recruiters who paint an exceedingly optimistic outcome - all acting in their self interest

Okay have you checked how long they can survive in the international firm? Less than 1 year? Oh right 1 year hasn’t passed...

Lol... you can’t survive doesn’t mean actual lawyers can’t. At the end of the day, you don’t try, you won’t get. If you’re happy staying in a local firm doing comfortable work then by all means - more room for those who want to do international work or work in a mnc to apply for.

In an industry with increasing limited incentive or availability to gun for equity partnership, moving to an international firm early is what will help you move up the wage ladder or gain broader exit opportunities.

Juniors and law students - don’t be afraid to network or reach out to seniors in international firms. These are the people with the real experience of applying. You can even try linkedin: many are willing to share.

Not a recruiter.
