There's no such thing as renege. You don't owe them anything to stay. Leave the moment you find a real LA offer elsewhere
Exactly. It is laughable how some management preach about loyalty constantly, yet their employee benefits is crap

The LA problem is the same problem that Bitcoin is facing.

You have so many people chasing for Bitcoin, driving up prices when there’s no fundamentals

Be grateful you can be a legal exec.

Most SAs in this generations (90s kids) won’t ever smell partnership. Some will stay on as SA for ever and ever

Then study for a law degree for what? Anyone can be legal executive. I know of people who become legal executive in a known law firm who doesn’t even have an A level or Poly cert. that person (90s kid) is not even old enough to make up for her lack of credentials with experience. do you (degree holder) want to be in same title position with someone who doesn’t even complete pre tertiary education?

Then either stay jobless or take the legal executive. Your choice.
Sometimes we do not have a choice. Circumstances define us.
How about those who just graduated during the financial meltdown in 2008?
Every decade or so, something on this scale would happen. You either take the executive job or remain jobless

I think you’re confusing legal exec and legal assistants/paralegal. Execs are often called to the bar

To OP - you have a valid reason to leave.

Did all the retained trainees become Legal Exec? If so, you can explain that easily.

I agree, this generation of people are laughable. I pity them at the same time I am glad these years are over for me. Now I can only sit back and enjoy while looking them like they are laughing stocks.

Actually to be fair, in the 70s-90s, most junior lawyers were called legal assistants.
Then people realise assistants don’t sound so nice so upgrade it to associate.

It doesn’t matter. The truth is every decade or so, a crisis on this magnitude would occur.
This is part and parcel of life. Like you, I’m done with everything. I sometimes find it amusing the juniors are spending so many hours to do privacy certifications, and all the other ancillary qualifications. Back in the old days, these weren’t necessary. Glut plus crisis makes things a lot worse

Ok boomer. Dont talk big la. Your time 5 years become equity partner. No competition. No emails. Easy as can be.

For OP, reach out to the legal recruiters on Linkedin. If any of the idiots here read the legal news you will realise that 2020 was a phenomenal year for law firms. Look around... they ARE hiring. Those who are not probably can’t survive much longer anyway.
