For avoidance of doubt, $30k SGD per month. I saw the payslip.
Not rupiah, not taiwan dollars, not rupee
They are Singaporean chinese, not angmoh

Agreed. I think for the other OP who wanted to take an LLM in UK after your LLB, if you're just doing it for the experience and your parents got the money to waste then by all means go ahead. A LLM may not give you much of an edge but it's your $$. A Masters doesn't do any harm if you make sure you have a TC when you come back.

Hi guys! I've received uni offers from NUS and LSE for law (messed up oxbridge interviews :/ ) and am currently of two minds as to which to pursue. My parents want me to go overseas (they can afford it, but my heart hurts thinking bout the fees).

On one hand, while going to LSE is appealing bc of the international outlook, diversity, culture, etc. etc.) but then again there are also the issues of:

1) the real possibility of not being able to succeed in the UK for MC TCs given that I'm not an angmoh,
2) industry uncertainty arising from brexit even if I get a UK TC,
3) becoming a local second class lawyer if I cmi in the uk (+ the difficulty in passing bar part a + lack of local network)
4) the matter of costs.

Clearly then, NUS law is the right choice no? I was just wondering what y'all would do in my shoes. Could ya'll please help me out and lemme see if my reasoning makes sense and give me some social proof or disproof?

Thank you so much in advance!

Wait... if your parents can afford it (and I assume they are lawyers), then isn’t it a no brainer that you should go overseas to do law?
Or can you reapply to Oxbridge in another year?
It’s no point going in this Sept everything is online learning there’s no proper experience

Depends on what you want in terms of your future career.

If you wish to try for a tc in London, then go to LSE. While it is true that you may not get into a magic circle firms right from the get go, getting a TC at at a silver circle firm will still afford you the opportunity to transition into magic circle once you gain a few years pqe. Also, let's be real.. you'll have have a better life as a trainee in london than in SG.

... and most of my batch mates from LSE who did well (high 2.1, FCH - which is what you'll need for applications to MC/SC firms anyway) still got TCs in SG Big4

If you want to practice in SG, NUS for sure. No questions about it.

Ah they aren't lawyers! Uhmm. My parents can pay for it, but it would probably mean that they would be left without savings... that's the problem and the reason why I am so reluctant.

On reapplying, I'm plan to do it! I was planning on doing NUS law this year and then seeing how the cards fall again for oxbridge come Jan 21. But my parents still want me to go to LSE instead of NUS law. Their reasoning is that if I don't get into Oxbridge in 21, I wont be able to go to LSE bc they would probably blacklist me for being a no show this sept...

So my idea is to take NUS law, use the online semester as a kind of pre-u training for the oxbridge interviews, and see how the cards fall. But ofc, the opp cost of this choice is what happens if I cmi oxbridge again... So I guess what I'm really asking is are the prospects for LSE that good that it would trump a NUS education and justify the exorbitant international fees? Bc from what I understand, if I decide to come back (or cmi overseas in the worst case scenario) the LSE degree is kinda trash compared to NUS...

was in the exact same position as you were. Take the LSE and get the JD to Columbia.
