Red face

I am sure that market will swing back as it has been
for every economic cycle.

Was back in 2014 there was a shortage of lawyers ?

maybe 2018/9 then there is shortage of lawyers again.

Time to make big money

If you think lawyers make big money think again. only laymen and kiasu parents have this misconception

there are many other ways to make money for less effort

what law offers is the promise of stability and decent middle class incomes for the segment of university grads that are book smart, not terribly entrepreneurial, and risk adverse whether by nature or by training.

The legal market in Singapore isn't exactly growing. Even after the glut goes away, it doesn't mean life will suddenly become good for lawyers.

Hello, I’m curious to know if a guy who has gone through NS is paid more than girls in the legal industry? Think that’s the case for all government jobs and many private jobs. If not, should we fight for it?

Don’t tell me that there is no reason why a private firm would do this. It’s like a “national obligation” for employers to take into account a guy’s NS years. If firms want to operate in Singapore, this is the price to pay. No reason why law firms should be different.

No. Law firms generally do not pay more for guys who have gone through NS.

If you join AGC, government bodies or government-related bodies then yes. Though, my understanding is that AGC is on a hiring freeze and government agencies/government-related bodies generally pay much lower than AGC anyways.

Should you fight for more? You can try. From my experience, if you're not absolutely god damn brilliant at your job or bring in enough $ to justify your costs (1/3 principle), you will likely be told that (1) there are many people willing to take your place for less and (2) you are not worth that amount of money.

This happened to a trainee at my firm. He huff and puffed and left only to come crawling back after 6 months having failed to find a place anywhere else. Unfortunately, it was too late to repair the firm's impression of him by then.
