Zhun Bo! I also just got offer as a metals trainee trader in one of the big trading houses

some of the smaller trading houses cannot pay high basic but bonus even higher than bb. my uni friend took a monthly pay cut from bank to join a small boutique trading precious metals basic pay only 6k but last year bonus >300k.

I am a fresh graduate looking to join the commodities sector as a trader. How tough is it for me to do so and what are my chances?

Anyone knows what does someone who joins the trader grad program at BP get for starting?

Is commodity trading job on par with bankers (BBFO) in terms of pay after 5-10 years?

depends on ur trading book performance. if u lousy no bonus of course the basic lower, but if u good can unlock bonus >$2mil total will be higher than BBFO

Thanks for the insight. Is this applicable only to oil and gas? Does agri-trading pay equally well?

those who r currently in the industry, is it usual to see internal transfers from other parts of the company to the trading dept? let's say i can't break into trading, would it be advisable if i start off in another dept (eg finance, marketing) of a trading house n try to network my way there?

Agri trading pay is less aggressive. To hit bonus levels of 3-5 mil which is normal for good performers in o&g, you need to be like the #1 trader in the firm for agri.
