Returning to MOE as a HOD
I notice that for this round of applications for trained teachers, there is no option to state that you would like them to consider you for a HOD post (if you had been an ex-HOD). Does anyone know if it is still possible to return as a HOD?
TIA!

I think your experience as an HOD is still invaluable. In my opinion, its not good HR practice to parachute a senior person from outside the org into a dept & disrupt aspiring young staff waiting in line to be promoted. Moreover, its better to emplace a more experienced person into a dept without giving the senior role initially but let him/her gradually fit into the role again by a later appt or by recognition of peers - less disruptive & also allows the P the chance to assess, evaluate & gain confidence in the person first. Its the same in private corporations i have been working in where its not unusual that senior appts are made only after the experienced person has been working in the division or business unit for some time though he/she may have been in a more senior position in previous company. Of course there are the exceptions where i seen an outsider takes the senior positions on day one - but that disruption is likely a trade off for a drastic mgt change needed or a rescue solution to a failing dept or some other purposes. If you were good before as HOD, you will surely make it again.

Fully understand your rationale, thanks for sharing.
I think it is also MOE's way of 'testing' one's resolve to contribute to the service again by getting the ex-HOD to start as a teacher before moving them back up to the management levels. However, I do think that it is a pity to not have a more flexible re-hiring scheme for those who left as HODs to return in a similar capacity.
So far, from what I gather, most experienced personnel who used to be say SEO 1 and above, will come back as GEO 5 on a 2 year contract (with quite a substantial pay cut from the last drawn). The 2 year local contract is therefore not a permanent position and it is dependent on the person's ability to prove his/her worth again in order to get their principal's endorsement for permanent placement on the MOE scheme.
I guess, the fact of the matter is that there are too many still in service and they do not need to offer a very competitive package for those who want to return.

I applied for it in September last year. Went through in Oct and I emailed schools in the neighbourhoods I wanted. I must have sent out at least 8 to 15 schools. Within an hour of sending the emails, my current vp called and ’booked’ me.
When I met him in person, he told me they had to book FAJTs fast. Otherwise, will be booked by other schools. True enough. Subsequently, other schools called and offered me a place after an interview. I had the happy dilemma of trying to decide which school to pick.

Thanks for sharing. Your processing time is very fast - like 4 weeks. Do you think performance grade matters in how fast HR does processing? Did you get C- or even better? Hope you don't mind sharing.
