Fresh grad. Local uni, pass degree.
Have you received their offer, or you've just went for the 2nd interview? For fresh grad, there is no way you can nego what they will offer you. Its either you take it or leave it. And considering you only have a pass degree, be prepared to receive lower starting pay compared to your peers with a higher class degree.

I have not received their offer but hr said the panel of interviewers have approved, now just need to wait for hr/mgmt approval before they give me their offer.

What's the normal rate for pass degree? And will i be overlooked for promotions since i only have a pass degree?

It varies from agencies to agencies, from job scope to scheme of service. Traditionally, it is hard for pass degree to secure jobs in the public sector. I guess the normal rate will be $100-$200 lesser than a higher class of honors.

You will not be overlooked for promotions, because that will be based on your work performance. However, your CEP may be lower than that of a higher class honors, and that will affect how fast you'll be promoted in your entire career with that stat board.

What is the expected salary you've indicated? They probably won't differ too much from there.

Hi, thanks for the information.

I've indicated 2900 in the career.gov portal. Is it reasonable?

Was it a stat board or a ministry? Pardon me, but stat boards got more autonomy and hence "easier" to enter stat board in that sense. Though, certain stat boards such as EDB, IE Singapore, Spring, and A*STAR etc only hire 2nd upper and above. This still holds during my employment with from one of the agencies I've listed.

But at the end of the day, classification of degree itself holds little meaning as some FCH and 2nd Upper may not deliver good work as compared to lower class graduates, and vice versa. It's all about work performance thereafter, though you may be shackled by CEP for the first few years as it's based on your academic credential.

Are you a lady or a guy? I think if you're a guy, can try for at least 3000 or 3100. Then again it depends on which agencies you're applying for, as the starting pay definitely differs between social agencies and economic agencies for example.

Default 2 year contract

Is it normal for stat boards to offer 2 year contract before reviewing you for permanent position?

Hi. I think to a certain extent statboards do follow PSD guidelines. I have applied to a Ministry and was given a 2 year contract position, thereafter will depend on performance before they decide to absorb an individual within the organization.
