Anyone graduated from local uni last year May 2015?

I graduated from engineering last year and have been jobless close to a year right now. Sent hundreds of resumes, attended close to 20 interviews but to no avail. Quite depressing i must say. The current batch of students are graduating soon. I can't believe man. Only those who are in the same circumstance will understand.

I wont say i am the only one rejected because every time the HR send me the rejection email they will either forgot to change the applicant's name or the position of the previous candidate. So i roughly know if the previous candidate got accepted or not. Of course, that is not important to me.

Most of the interviews i attended were actually from government statutory board. Unfortunately, most the positions i got called up for were quite senior and requires 3 years of experience. I don't know why the hack they call me for interviews. Obviously, i got rejected. Maybe they just need to make up the numbers?

This week got another two interviews (one of which is stat board). Most likely i will see current batch of fresh graduates as well. I dont know how i will perform but i can say i am getting worse every interview partly because i am demoralise by myself. The question why i am jobless for so long will most likely be popped up. Anyone can advise how i should tackle?

I tried last year MOE Teaching. I applied for secondary Mathematics but they offered me General Education (Primary) for the interview.

In the end i still got rejected. I did sound very enthusiastic but it didn't help. Haha.

Btw i graduated from Civil Engineering. I guess i am the only soul from the previous batch unemployed. Damn Xia Suay.

No need to think too much. With the economic recession now everyone with good academics is rushing to join the civil service. Even if you are good, the odds are against you when there are 20 well qualified applicants for 1 single government job. Just keep trying.

You're not the only one. A couple of my friends who studied engineering are still unemployed. Don't give up. Maybe you should get someone to evaluate your resume or your interviewing skills. 20 interviews in a year is less than 2 a month.

Good morning,

I was the original poster at 11.20pm last night.

Sorry, I might not be explicit enough earlier as I was referring to roles at MOE HQ, not MOE-teaching.

As you are engineering-trained, you may wish to try the following:
://careers.pageuppeople.com/688/cwlive/en/job/506411/manager-senior-manager-building-policy-and-plans

Hope this helps.

Btw, if all else fails, you can drop me your resume if you don't mind. I have colleagues in my agency's HR dept. They may be able to help.

Hi,

Maybe you should consider working as temp/contract roles first, then in the meantime continue to find a perm job? who knows, when there is an internal role available, you can be considered for the position?

I have seen many of my friends taking temp/contract roles first and they eventually found a job through internal recommendation. This will also look better in your resume.

Good luck and don't give up hope!
