From what I've seen, opportunities are limited, growth is restricted, especially in the beginning years when they are just happy with the CEP they gave at the start. Then when life commitments roll in, they say with X-years experience, I should be doing even more now. And everyone selectively forgets that after 14y, climbing from 2.2, 2.1, 2A1... GEO1, GEO2.. I've only just moved to GEO 3, bringing home only 2.9 per month. OPE has not worked. Trying different tracks was not an option - was advised to stay on teaching track etc.

People have since forgotten that we exist... just because there's less of us now doesn't mean that we disappeared. Even worse for those of us who are promised emplacement only to be left behind when they merged the scales and say - no such thing anymore. Just feeling so tired.
yes, there was period in time (2015-2017?) where those who completed their part time degrees at then UniSim were not emplaced automatically or were given some lame excuse on why the emplacement didnt take place. not sure if any of them took it up to HR and beyond or not. but i do know a number of them decided to go for the shortcut: chase after leadership position in schs.

if such a thing were to happen now, please bring it up to Louis Chia so that at least the public knows about it.

I am currently an MOE Mother Tongue teacher with five years of experience. I have received an offer to join an independent school, but I am worried about resigning from MOE to accept this offer. Can anyone advise me on this? I am quite confused and concerned about transitioning to an independent school

Why don't you do secondment to that independent school first? so you'll still be under MOE payroll, and the next 2 years are crucial to your 7th year CONNECT plan. After that, if the new school environment suits you, at least you'd have taken your CONNECT plan payout, quite MOE and join the independent school. Should you decide that the school is not for you, you can still return to an MOE school and you don't lose your 2 years of CONNECT plan.

Despite efforts by Louis Ng to speak up for teachers in parliament, to remove bell curve ranking, reduce non-teaching work, and remove CEP, what has changed?

They doubled down and insist that ranking is done in a fair manner. How fair, those on the ground can see for themselves.

Double-down and insisted that non-teaching work, is also part of GEOs' work, as an educator, instead of merely a 'teacher'. Nevermind that there is a lack of Employment Act to cap civil servants' working hours.

Instead of having CEP, CEP just got rebranded as LP. Which serves the same function.

For your case, if you have a degree, any degree, and still drawing only 2.9k after so many years, just quit. Don't even have to stay in education field as a tutor. When fresh grads are making close to 4k, literally any job will pay better. Stop wasting your time.

Paper qualifications are important.

When even grads are struggling to promote, given the dearth of promotion opportunities, what more for dip ed folks.
Seriously for those who are claiming that ranking is unfair, what would you consider to be fair? In a school, as a teacher you will never have in depth knowledge of what everyone in the school is doing. As an English teacher I sure as hell have no idea what my Maths colleague are doing and whether they are contributing a lot to their dept or outside their school that could justify that person getting a B.

Heck, do any of you know whether your colleagues were nominated by your school leaders for recognition like OYEA even though they were eventually not even in the finalised list?

Seriously, it's very easy to say that everything is unfair from that little knowledge that you have. You think that you do a lot of work and everyone else did less. To the people whining about unfairness, the only fair system to them is the one where they get the good grade.

Lol honestly kind of sick of seeing your posts. Just so you know, these posts don’t affect us. It just shows your past trauma, probably from being abused by your past teachers in the olden days? If you have never been a teacher before, you don’t have rights to say how easy the job is or how lazy a teacher is. You clearly don’t know how the syllabus keeps changing and our students are very different now so there’s no way to use “old” materials. If you were/ is currently a teacher, then you must be one of those lazy ones who reuse lesson plans considering the things you post here are so repetitive 🌚 so either way you’re talking **** about yourself…

What is fair? This is such a simple question, with simple answers.
But sadly made complicated by people. And many people like you, are brainwashed into learned helplessness, that the current mode of appraisal is the best and fairest option out there.

The objective of appraisal, is basically to determine whether people are pulling their weight. Are they under-performing, performing, or over-performing.

Whether you are performing, can be easily determined by whether you achieved the KPIs assigned to you at the start of the year.

Fail to achieve the KPIs = underperforming
Met the KPIs = performing
Exceeded the KPIs = overperforming

And of course, the KPIs set at the start of each work year has to be reasonable, and can be humanly done within the scope of official work week.

Is this really very hard to do?
