I'm always puzzled as to why confirmed middle management appointees are not automatically moved up to SEO1, which is the entry management grade. Why is MOE intentionally underpaying them by leaving them at non-management pay grades? Age tax for young people?
Are you sure of your info? 1/3 HOD are GEO4? Considering that they can only be apportioned at Geo 4 now, and from SH/LH to HOD and there is no promotion, it seems unlikely. Decent HOD to you means? Likable? Capable? People centric management doesn’t equate to performing hod. It’s either your info is speculation.

Yes the information is correct. I'm in the school's middle management as well and we have open conversations about career.

Even if they are C grade HODs, do they not deserve to be paid on a management pay scale? C grade is still meeting job expectations.

This actually calls for an interesting discussion.

Assuming that you are an experienced teacher or KP, does this mean that different schools push and view career progression differently?

If that is really the case, is it actually fair to grade/rank/assess individuals the same way, although they are in different work environments?

Food for thought hmmm...

Disgruntled overpaid teacher crying, as if their job is the only difficult job in the world.

I am a middle manager like you do. Technically, it is impossible for you to be a C grade GEO 4/5 HOD because of the portfolio you are holding, the impact of your work compared to regular teachers

Oh and I should continue using your logic. Working hours and all must also be standardised to office hours. Teachers should not need to report to work at 7 and continue work during after-hours too. Teachers should not be losing their voices at students and listen to unreasonable demands from other stakeholders too.

And on the other hand, that also means your MX job should also be easy enough for any OSO in a school to take over too.

Yay to your logic.

No wonder the education sector is dying. Look at how the general public views education and educators these days. Only when an individual or his/her loved one is a teacher do they realise that the jobscope, commitment and sacrifices of an MOE teacher is way different from an MX generalist out there.
Boy SMEs in Singapore employs 70% of the workforce. Teachers are really a privileged group compared to other professions. Do you dare say you work harder than lawyers, doctors or auditors.

Just compare your salary against the median salary to know how pampered you are. Don’t forget to add in all the bonuses that are only available to civil service. And please don’t compare yourself to the bank and tech sector. NIE is not the institution that attracts the best and brightest.

If educators think they are underpaid, feel free to quit and venture into the world. Shouldn't be too tough if they are underpaid and are able to command a 'deserving' pay.

What is your context? It seems like you are barking up the wrong tree.

This doesn't make any sense at all. Is teaching not part of the "world"?

Also your information is misleading. GEO5 does not make $8k. SEO1 and SEO2 is not "At least $10k". SEO2/SEO3 is not "$13k".

You're not even an education officer.
Absolutely baffling how non-GEOs try to infiltrate this thread and shove their logic down our throats. Imagine us teachers commenting on the salary of other professions.
