Hi all,
I'm a male NTU grad with second upper honours. A few questions for the more experienced contributors here.
My current job pays me 3.6k but that includes a shift allowance. I have slightly less than 1 year total work experience. Can I expect a similar pay if I join MINDEF? Planning to apply for Media Analyst or Research Executive (Defence Relations).
Also, how long does it usually take between sending the online job application to them calling you up for the first time? I want to send my application in asap as I've heard the competition is fierce but I'm going on a couple of weeks overseas leave soon and don't want to miss any calls from them while I'm overseas.
Finally, I downgraded during my NSF days and ORDed as a clerk and with PES C9. Does MINDEF 'discriminate' against downgraded males in any way?
Thanks in advance for any replies. Cheers!

You would probably get a much higher pay than your current one.
It will take them sometime to contact you. Once you apply, they will notified you to take the psychometric test. The test will probably take place 2-3 weeks after you have submit your application. If you pass the test, they will shortlist you for the interview. However, there is no definite time frame as to how long they will take to call you up for an interview. It may take one to two months.
As for the PES, I'm not so sure about it.

my friend was a clerk n PES C9 and managed to get into DXO, but it still ultimately depends on the unit that is going to hire you.
As for the application.. if you are going overseas then you might as well wait till you come back because you will have to go for a psychometric test which you may not be able to make it in time.
-> apply online, after 1-2 days, if they feel that you are a good fit, they will send you an e-mail to arrange for a psychometric test date (normally for local u, sure go psychometric test at least)
-> after you reply them to fix a test date, they will reply you within 3 working days, for one of my friend it was 3 and a half. that's already 1 week gone. and the psychometric test is only held 2 times a week.
-> after the psychometric test, it really depends on your unit and the number of applicants and how urgent they need people to fill in the gap. if you think about the psychometric test being only held 2 times a week and they are maybe waiting for more applicants, then you can see why it can sometimes take up to a month or even more before they call you for the 2nd round of interview. but ultimately as usual it still depends on your unit and luck, there are some people who got called up after just 3 days, some after 2 weeks, and some after months

Yes, agree with you that the earlier post is nonsensical. And urge others who do not know the real thing, to post wrong and misleading information, please.
