there's only so many hours a day, if you need 8 hours for your current job, and several hours for meal/commute/shower, the only time left you have to take from is your sleep or weekends. it's the harsh truth but it's the reason why people start leaving the firm in droves once they're senior. the alternative is do less than 8 hours for your current job and squeeze in the follow up work at daytime. you'll have trouble meeting your current job deadlines though. the real solution is to hire more people and stop making them carry so many jobs at once but you won't see that happen in your lifetime.

Moved to internal audit. I tried applying accounting/finance related roles but offer wasn’t that great. But internal audit/risk management roles are offering way better!

Congrats! But what will future progression be like? Don’t really see any FCs or CFOs from internal audit

Not OP, but for banks and financial services companies, the progression can be pretty good as you climb up to Head of Risk, Audit, Compliance since it's awfully boring and not many people can stomach that as a career. I know someone who pivoted into cybersecurity but it took a lot of studying, and another became project manager for bank for implementations but that was before COVID and all the PM hype. For non-bank MNCs, progression is slower but you get great WLB and 10k-25k salary as HODs so it's not too bad. Though I can't stress enough that if you don't like internal controls testing and remembering rules and standards in external audit, you probably won't like IA.
