I agree. When hiring for staff such as receptionists and hawker assistants, it is better to hire the cheaper and more efficient private grads. But maybe you consider poly or ite grads? Will work out even better for your business.

I will consider poly grads as well for office roles.
Ite grads are better for technical stuff.
Another reason why private grads are better is because they have the necessary skillset without the self entitlement local grads have. They are also willing to work harder. I am pretty sure I can find a top notch private grad who is willing to slog for a better life, after which I will pay him local grad salary and he will thank me for giving him the opportunity unlike local grad.

I would beg to differ. There is a reason why MNCs and banks only hire local/top overseas grad for their positions. They are proven to learn faster and be more efficient. Thus commanding a higher pay. The top private grad would probably be equivalent to a lower tier local grad, thus if u are comparing the lousiest local grad, may make sense to hire a top private grad. But if u compare the average local grad to the average private grad, the local/overseas grad will definitely be of higher caliber and require a premium to hire. Essentially u are paying for what u get.

dear uol juniors, don't be affected by the comments of these local uni students
if these people are really so capable, why would they even bother coming into a thread not related to them, let alone type long sentences to reply? these people are just rubbish in real life, they should count themselves lucky to live in the internet era because at least there is a platform for them to make themselves feel better

simple answer of supply and demand
if i can find tonnes of sim-uol grads around, how much do you think they will worth in employers mind?
fresh grads have not much to bargain for. instead of focusing on just starting pay, it is more important to see how to build your career over the years.
a well chosen first job can help you to kick start your career for quite some years to go, if not you will be back to square one. and i have seen demoralised or disillusioned young grads, working a few years, then choose to forgo their career to work in insurance/property agents/mlm. such a waste

You will be surprised how many entrepreneurs don't have local degree because business is the only path they have to immense riches. Local grads tend to hide in their cushy jobs and secretly hope to win the rat race earning $1M a year. I would say less than 1% make it in the end.

Less than 1percent of entrepreneurs make it too. And if u fail as an entrepreneur u may end up bankrupt and with no relevant work experience. At least if u join the rat race, by 40 u will most probably be earning 100-200k per annum and living a comfortable middle class life.
