Thanks for the input. I'm going to take it.

For context, it's for large tech company. Pay is 285k annual, area is mid lvl COL so it's a pay bump after some calculations.

Interested to know how you've managed to earn this much also! Like how old are you and what are your years of working experience, qualifications, etc?

Instead of casting doubts or jealousy, you have chosen to inquire more details of this high achiever's profile that is the way to learn my friend. Keep improving and your turn will come sooner than you expect.

Thank you my friend. I won't deny that i feel envious/jealous at times since i am only human.

However, if i have enough time to mope around feeling sorry for myself, i think i should use the time to think of ways to earn more $$ and get a better job.

It looks like he is going into tech, and tech is always well paid for the top talent. Do remember the tax rates and rental, given that he will likely be in the west coast area, the 285k would be more like ~180k in sg terms.

It is equivalent to 180 usd after tax -> 240 sgd.

This pay is not low by any means. To compare with jobs from other industries, VP at JP/GS only pays 200k in NYC. So he is already making a very good money.

This pay is actually on par with manager level pay at top consulting firm (McKinsey, Bain) in New york city.

So those who said living cost is high etc, are purely rubbish. I would say if you manage to secure 285k in US, you should be able to fetch 200k+ sgd in Singapore.

Would comment that vp in high finance in nyc is more like 300-400k, you need to factor in the bonuses

Seems like the consensus is that if you can relocate to the US, just go ahead?

Itís a little more complicated than that. One can definitely make a comfortable living in Singapore (great tax rates, financial hub) but one of the key cultural aspects is that Singapore is asian (or to be specific, Chinese) dominant. Glass ceilings and hidden racism do still exist even if much progress has been made in the past decades.

And of course, one cannot forget that the food in Asia is much better than the US (I may be biased though)

-interned in US, work in SG
