What’s the salary progression like in asset management? Is it really impossible to get in as a fresh grad?

This is false. In AM, hierarchy within front office roles is PM > Product> Sales. Product is extremely important role within AM as they are the bridge between the PMs and sales people. You would get a good grasp of the investment side as well as the BD side (product people do have to give client presentations etc). Many sales people also lateral into product. On comp, generally, product pays better than sales but also highly dependent on what shop you are at.

The role that you are talking about is Client Portfolio Managers, see the link below and you will see the JD of a CPM matches your description. Product Managers in AM are concerned about the P&L of their products, coming up with strategies on how to achieve targets and doing competitive positioning. Take a look at the Wellington link again, you will see that role describes the role of a Product Manager.

So the Wellington IFPS role is more product and not investments? In that case, the compensation of about 5k is actually reasonable? Then whats the salary if its for more investment centric roles for fresh grad at Wellington?
To the person who say sales> products, why do you say this haha? both are incredibly different roles, sales more upside if you are good, but i think the technical side of it will be missed out..
