To be CA Singapore, you will need to take the Singapore CA Qualification (SCAQ, previously known as SQP), complete with 3-year practical experience at any Accredited Training Organisation.
If you do not wish to take SCAQ, you can pursue either of the following professional accountancy bodies which allows you to get CA Singapore under the reciprocal arrangement with ISCA. - Chartered Accountants Ireland
- The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)
- The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS)
If you feel that you do not require a local (Singapore) Chartered Accountant status, you can opt for other popular professional accountancy bodies such as ACCA or CPA Australia. Please note that you will not be able to convert to CA Singapore (for now) if you are taking ACCA or CPA Australia.
It is highly recommended to have CA Singapore if you are carving a career in Big 4 or local accounting/audit firms (Otherwise you will most likely "henta kaki" at some point in time). Otherwise, my personal opinion is that any CA/CPA is a good to have if you are pursuing the audit/accounting route. If you are pursuing other route, spend your time in pursuing something relevant and useful for your job.
