Jui Residences :: Inspired by History

You may have come across quite a number of ads recently on Jui Residences, the latest condominium launching for sale in the Boon Keng area. So what is the hype around this project all about?

Besides the basic info about it, such as the fact that it offers 117 units for sale 1177 Serangoon Road (nice numbers, those), and that it is a freehold property selling at the same pricing as for leasehold Park Colonial slightly further away, what else is special? Quite apart from its waterfront location, so called because Jui Residences fronts Kallang River. Though some could argue that is nothing more than a glorified canal, at least it is wider and longer than most other 'glorified canals', and it does end up at Kallang Basin.

But the stand-out thing about Jui Residences is really that it offers the chance to own a piece of history. Because it incorporates the landmark National Aerated Water (NAW) company building, that used to stand on the site before it was bought over by SDB to be re-developed into the Jui condo. The NAW building was gazetted for conservation, and has now been incorporated into the project as the commercial part of it housing a couple of retail spaces and some office space.

The distinctive Art Deco style of the NAW building has in turn inspired the architecture and design of Jui Residences itself, both internally and externally. It was designed by a renowned London-based architectural firm, CarverHaggard, who have worked on a range of high profile award-winning buildings, and been selected by Architecture Foundation as one of the top emerging practices in the UK.

Here is a picture of what the building looks like, with the old NAW building on the side fronting Serangoon Road. The style might not appeal to everyone, but it is unique in its own way.
